Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Betting Preview

Week 4 AP Top 25

The Week 4 AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday. No movement in the top 5, and Texas A&M were able to stay inside the top 10 despite losing on Saturday.

This week’s schedule is full of lopsided matchups, which could mean a major upset, or a whole whack of lopsided games.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released. Lines courtesy of BetOnline.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0, previous: 1)

Alabama won the weekend’s marquee matchup, getting some revenge against Texas A&M for last year’s meeting. The team’s defense surrendered a program worst 628 yards of offense, but they won’t have to worry too much about that side of the ball this weekend when they host Colorado State as 39-point favorites.

2. Oregon Ducks (3-0, previous: 2)

Oregon cruised past Tennessee on Saturday. More impressive than the 59 points they scored was the fact that they limited a good Tennessee offense to just 14 points. The Ducks are off this week, but they have a firm stranglehold on the No. 2 spot, even earning a first place vote in the Week 4 poll.

3. Clemson Tigers (2-0, previous: 3)

Clemson is coming off a bye week. They’re still riding high off of their season-opening win over Georgia. This weekend they’ll hit the road to take on the NC State Wolfpack as 14-point favorites.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0, previous: 4)

Ohio State didn’t miss a beat with Braxton Miller on the sidelines. Kenny Guiton led the team to a 52-34 win over a tough Cal team, earning Walter Camp Player of the Week honors in the process. This week the Buckeyes get Florida A&M in a cupcake matchup.

5. Stanford Cardinal (2-0, previous: 5)

Stanford had a little more trouble with Army than they would have liked to, but not enough to be overly concerned. This weekend they draw the toughest matchup of the top 10 teams, as they draw Arizona State. The Cardinal are a 7.5 point favorite, and the home team is 8-2-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings between the teams. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

6. LSU Tigers (3-0, previous: 8)

The LSU offense continued their strong play on Saturday, putting up 45 points on a good Kent State defense. This weekend they shouldn’t have too much trouble as 14-point favorites against an Auburn team that has struggled in SEC play.

7. Louisville Cardinals (3-0, previous: 7)

Louisville had some trouble with rival Kentucky, although that was to be expected on the road. Teddy Bridgewater showed that he is in fact human, suffering a minor ankle injury during the game, but it’s not expected to affect him going forward. On Saturday the team will host Florida International. The Cardinals have dominated C-USA opponents in recent years.

8. Florida State Seminoles (2-0, previous: 10)

Florida State throttled Nevada on Saturday, building up a 55-point lead. Jameis Winston has dazzled us thus far, and he’ll have the chance to do so again this weekend in a soft matchup with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

9. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, previous: 9)

An off week for the Bulldogs after their big bounceback win over South Carolina. Georgia is 4-0 ATS in their last four games, and they’ll look to continue that streak this weekend as 32-point favorites against North Texas.

10. Texas A&M Aggies (2-1, previous: 6)

Texas A&M was able to remain in the top 10 despite their loss to No. 1 Alabama. The Aggie offense looked great once again, but the mystery surrounding the defense was answered – they stink. Despite getting back four starters for the game, the unit looked just as bad as they did in weeks 1 and 2, maybe worse. This weekend they’ll host SMU as 28.5-point favorites.
