NCAA Football Previews – No. 22 Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs UAB Blazers

Southern Miss pretty much locked-up the C-USA East Division with a 30-29 victory over UCF this past Saturday as a 9.5-point home favorite. It is now 5-1 straight-up in the conference. Overall, it is 9-1 SU and 7-3 against the spread. The total went ‘over’ the 51.5-point line against the Knights, but it has stayed ‘under’ in six of its previous nine games this season.
The Golden Eagles have taken flight this year behind a balanced offense that is averaging 36.8 points a game. Their defense has also been solid; giving-up an average of just 20.5 points a game.
UAB is coming off a rare win with a 41-35 victory over Memphis as a five-point road favorite. It was just its second win of the season against eight losses. The Blazers are 2-8 SU on the year, but a tough out ATS at 6-4. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their 10 games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
The main problem with UAB this season has been its inability to consistently put points on the board. The 41 points against the Tigers was its best effort of the year, but there are only six other schools in D-IA that have scored fewer points this season.
The Golden Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as favorites and 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of their last 11 games as road favorites.
The Blazers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as underdogs and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last eight games as underdogs.
Head-to-head in this series, the underdog is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the last five games at Legion Field. Stick with UAB to follow suit with its strong trends ATS by doing enough to cover with the 23 points at home.
