With a win, the Gamecocks (7-2) would set a new record for consecutive home victories with 16, while the visiting Florida Gators look to snap their four-game losing streak.

The Gators (4-5), have lost four straight, and another loss would give the perennial SEC powerhouse its first five-game losing streak since 1979. And in order, to keep from having its first losing season in 34 years, the Gators need a win over either South Carolina or No. 2 Florida State next week.

It’s been a dismal 2013 campaign for Florida, as it has battled the injury bug all year long, losing to Vanderbilt last week for the first time since 1998.

And to make matters worse, they will most likely be without quarterback Tyler Murphy this weekend because of a sprained shoulder. Murphy replaced injured quarterback Jeff Driskel, who is just one of seven starters lost to season-ending injuries, including running back Matt Jones and defensive tackle Dominique Easley.

If Murphy can’t go, the job will belong to freshman Skyler Mornhinweg, who has yet to throw a pass as a college quarterback.

Defensively, the Gators have been hit hard as well, and announced this week that they’ve lost linebacker Antonio Morrison for the season with a torn meniscus.

That’s not good news as the Gamecocks head to town, coming off back-to-back league wins over Missouri and Mississippi State and a bye week that allowed banged-up quarterback Connor Shaw enough time to recover from both a knee sprain and a virus he had been battling with over the past two weeks.

The senior did get the start against Mississippi State on Nov. 2, however,  and erased any doubts about his health, tying a career-high by throwing for four touchdowns and 147 yards on 10-for-20 passing in an impressive 34-16 win over the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, Mike Davis became the second Gamecock to rush for over 100 yards seven times in a single season, by adding d 128 yards on the ground for South Carolina versus the MSU.

But it hasn’t been just the offense that hasplayed well. The Gamecocks defense made it relatively easy on Shaw in their bout against the Bulldogs, forcing a season-high five turnovers.
