These 2 teams played last year, with the Bulldogs drubbing Colorado 69-14 in Fresno. The Buffaloes could use that as motivation this time around, but they are going to have to keep up with the Fresno State offense.

That shouldn’t be a problem this season where scoring has been a strength for Colorado.

Fresno State

Led by Derek Carr, brother of ex-Fresno State legend and from NFL #1 pick David Carr, the Fresno State Bulldogs have relied heavily on their explosive offense to keep them in games and pick up big victories in both of their games this season.

Carr is tied for second in the country with 8 touchdown passes and is 2,388 yards from breaking Kevin Sweeney’s school record set in 1986. Carr’s top receiver, Davante Adams, has touchdown receptions in 10 straight games.

Defense has been the issue for the Bulldogs, allowing 543 against Rutgers and 416 yards against Cal Poly in their first 2 games. The Fresno State defense has allowed 76 points already and should be thankful they scored 93 points themselves. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Isaiah Burse had 2 punt returns for touchdowns last week vs Cal Poly and will look to try and do it again against a Colorado special teams that hasn’t fit the bill this season.

Colorado

Like Fresno State, Colorado features a high-powered offense that can hit you through the air, but is also effective on the ground. Wide receiver Paul Richardson was injured all of 2012 and has come back with a vengeance. He has 200+ yards in each of the team’s 2 games this season.

Quarterback Connor Wood has thrown for 741 yards and 6 touchdowns already this season and looks to be gaining steam. The defense has been doing their part to help Wood, picking off 3 passes alone last week (the same amount as all of last season.) The defense returned 2 of those interceptions as well as a fumble for touchdowns already.

Special teams has hurt Colorado this season, already allowing a punt return for a score and returns of 84 and 88 yards.

Betting Trends

• Over is 8-2 in Bulldogs last 10 vs. Pac-12
• Over is 4-1 in Bulldogs last 5 games on grass.
• The total has gone OVER in 13 of Fresno State’s last 19 games on the road

Prediction: Take the over.

The outcome of this game could be close and come down to which defense makes that one crucial stand. With potent pass games and high point per game averages, this is bound to be a shootout that should yield a lot of points.
