The MSU Bulldogs have been on the cusp of having a solid team for a long time, but playing in the murderous SEC West division, they almost always see their dreams quashed before they are realized.

Can the narrative be changed in “Death Valley” this Saturday evening?

A lot of ink has been spilled about QB Dak Prescott being the best player ever under center in Starkville; a poor man’s Tim Tebow (from his Florida days, not his NFL ones!) that can steamroll an opponent or use some elusiveness.

The entire skill set will be needed this weekend in the Bayou, as the Tigers are a heavy hitter in the division – in all senses of the word.

Louisiana State has only yielded 94 yards per game through the air against its first three opponents, including Big Ten player Wisconsin.

The Tigers habitually have a great defensive secondary, so if Prescott is going to make hay versus the home team, it’ll probably be on the ground.

LSU has been the victor in 21 of the previous 22 contests between these two schools.

The Bulldogs aren’t a pushover by any means, but the SEC West has a staggering five teams ranked in the Top 25; divisional knife-fights are a weekly occurrence in the SEC.

The Tigers clearly need to contain Prescott, but LSU rolls out plenty of offense of its own.

They have been getting a balanced contribution from its offense skill players through the first three games,  which makes it difficult for the opposition to account for everyone.

LSU has shut out its last two opponents, albeit they were FCS-dwelling Sam Houston State and Louisiana-Monroe.

When there’s also been 87 points of offense for LSU over those two games, it’s clear that Les Miles’s young men are currently firing on all cylinders.

In order to upset the Tigers on their harrowing home turf, Mississippi State will need an all-time game from Prescott.

The Bulldogs aren’t totally a one-man show – junior RB Josh Robinson has 288 yards and three TDs – but without an inspired game from their pivot, MSU is toast.

College Football Gambling ATS Trends

  • MSST are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
  • Under is 6-2 in MSST last 8 games on grass.
  • Under is 8-3 in MSST last 11 games overall.
  • Over is 11-5 in LSU last 16 games on grass.
  • MSST are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 meetings.
  • Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Expect the army of talented underclassmen on offense for LSU to be too much for the Bulldogs’ defense to handle, and though Prescott should produce at least a few plays that will be fit for the highlight reel, it won’t be enough for the ‘Dogs (pun intended) to topple the home side.

4* Play: Score Prediction – LSU 28, Mississippi State 17
