We know they are not great because neither could seal the deal against FSU.

Louisville

The Cardinals won’t be achieving any big goals this season but this is a big game, it always is when you go on the road to face Notre Dame.

At various times Louisville has looked elite, like when they had FSU on the rope, but in addition to losing that one they lost at Clemson and Virginia.

Their best win was in the opener against Miami but it is clear that they will be a factor in their new league. The next two games will fact in just how late into December their bowl game will be scheduled.

This will be the first start for Cardinals QB Reggie Bonnafon.

In the action so far he has proven to be a very capable athlete but against a defense as good as Notre Dame’s he will have to be a thrower in addition to a runner. Look for Davante Parker to have a big game.

He is the Cards best receiver and someone who can get open against any type of coverage. If Bonnafon can find him it will be the key to victory.

Notre Dame

All that talk about how to fit Notre Dame into the playoff scenarios seems pretty moot at this point.

They have lost three of their last four, the most surprising being when they lost in overtime against Northwestern at home last week.  The stout defense of the last couple of seasons has not been there this year as over the last 5 weeks they have given up 31 or more points each time.

Louisville comes in and they are not a juggernaut but in Bobby Petrino they have one of the best offensive minds in the game.

QB Everett Golson has a minor shoulder injury but is expected to go on Saturday. He has thrown for a lot more yards this season than he did when he led them to the Championship Game a couple of years back but he has also turned the ball over a lot – he has not had an interception free game since September 13.

Notre Dame has some nice personnel but they need him to be better in the pivot.
