Illinois

The lllini got a a nice win at home against Minnesota last week. It was their first conference win of the season and looking at their schedule it might be the only one they get this year.

In the past Illinois has been a thorn in Ohio State’s side but that is going back to the old Juice Williams days – remember him.

This season, despite some improvement this is going to be more like a scrimmage with gains measured more mentally than in results on the field.

The outlook for Illinois might have been better for this one were it not for the injury to QB Wes Lunt. Backup Reilly O’Toole (that is really not a QB name, right?) is much more mistake prone even though he is a senior.

He might be getting more comfortable but the win last week over the Gophers was hardly his doing as he threw for only 118 yards.

He was the leading rusher though and his mobility will be required against OSU.

Ohio State

This is the last game before the Buckeyes visit East Lansing for a mega tilt with Michigan State. Since losing at home to Virginia Tech they have been dominating but they needed overtime on the road last week to get by Penn State.

Even if the Buckeyes are looking ahead this should still be an easy win.

The offense has become surprisingly potent behind J.T. Barrett and the defense, though maybe not as dominant as predicted is giving up just 20ppg.

Barrett is probable this week and lord help the Buckeyes if they have to rely on a third quarterback this season.

If it does happen or they decide to rest him early it will be Cardale Jones who is definitely more runner than thrower at this point.

It hasn’t been the quietest season in Columbus thanks to injuries and suspensions but they are in the mix and should stay that way after this one is in the books.
