But when it comes to all the factors – historical, level of passion plus current relevance between elite programs – you can’t top the Iron Bowl.

Two of the SEC West division’s best programs – both from the football-insane state of Alabama – do battle in the storied annual rivalry game in Tuscaloosa.

Whether it’s creative bumper stickers, awkwardness around the dinner table of a “split” family or extreme measures like poisoning the team’s ceremonial trees, this is a heated vendetta.

But what will happen on the field? Alabama holds the reins as head coach Nick Saban continues to churn out NFL prospects and college champions.

Still, Auburn is not without dynamic weapons. The Tigers’ run game is especially dangerous, schemed by offensive guru head coach Gus Malzahn and run by QB Nick Marshall and RB Cameron Artis-Payne. Auburn ranks ninth in the nation in rushing yards per game and approached top 25 nationally in scoring (29th).

Marshall and Artis-Payne have both scoring 11 rush TDs each, in a conference and division that is simply dripping with defensive stars.

To wit, the Alabama defense is elite, but it will still be a challenge slowing down Auburn’s ground game. If the Tide can limit or somehow stifle the run game, they should have this game in the bag.

The Tide can crush you with their staggering depth on both sides of the ball. Offensively, senior QB Blake Sims can get the ball to Heisman candidate WR Amari Cooper, which he’s done plenty of.

The run game can eviscerate you with pro prospect T.J. Yeldon, or freshman Derrick Henry, who looks like an NFL Pro Bowler right now.

We haven’t yet talked defense, which Alabama’s is ranked second in the country. Led by LB Reggie Ragland and DB Landon Collins, ‘Bama has ridden a hungry “D” to a 6-1 conference record and a 10-1 mark overall.

NCAAF Trends

* Over is 8-3 in AUB last 11 conference games.
* Over is 11-5 in AUB last 16 games on grass.
* ALA are 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
* ALA are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 home games.
* ALA are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games on grass.

Alabama is fantastic, as proven by big wins over Texas A&M, LSU and Mississippi State, everyone’s darling this year. However, its in-state neighbors are one of the few programs in the nation that can legitimately upset ‘Bama’s apple cart.

It won’t be an easy task in the frenzied atmosphere of Bryant-Denny, but if Malzahn and his kids can find holes in the home team’s defense, the Tigers could pull the upset.

4* Play: Alabama 28, Auburn 24 (OT)

I see this game going right down to the wire, in typical SEC fashion, but I don’t have the guts to go against the Supreme Overlord that is Nick Saban.
