Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels have been incredible this season, and it’s a good thing considering their current strength of schedule. Before Tennessee last week, the team took down then-ranked No. 3 Alabama and then-ranked No. 14 Texas A&M in back-to-back fashion.

Starting this week, it has two more ranked opponents in a row, starting with LSU and finishing with No. 5 Auburn on Nov. 1.

If Ole Miss wins out, there’s no way the College Football Playoffs committee can keep them out of the top four. Defense has been the reason for the success, and it’s what will cause LSU grief this weekend.

LSU

LSU is a good defensive program. In fact, it’s very good.

So far this season, the Tigers are giving up just 17 points per contest, which is good enough for eighth in the country.

Unfortunately, they’re going up against the No. 1 team in the country in terms of points per game allowed. Ole Miss is giving up just 10.6 points per contest, and no other team in the nation can make that claim.

For LSU, finding a balance offensively is going to be crucial. Unfortunately, that has been easier said than done all year.

The Tigers are 28th in the nation in rushing this season, but just 98th in passing. Ole Miss’ defense is too good to be that one-dimensional, so don’t be shocked if the Tigers struggle to find the endzone come Saturday.

Week 9 NCAA Football

Betting trends favor both programs in this one, but the eye test says Ole Miss has the advantage.

If the spread were higher entering this contest, it would be worth looking LSU’s way and considering an upset. The Tigers are a good team, but to come within a field goal is just too close considering the Rebels’ dominant defense.

Keep an eye on the spread as the week progresses, but don’t be shocked if Ole Miss earns a win straight up, as well as against the spread.
