Pac 12 Week 13: Washington St. vs. Washington | Apple Cup Preview & Prediction

Oregon St. Beavers vs Oregon Ducks NCAA Football Odds

Two teams desperate for a win to conclude their season will meet this Saturday as the Washington State Cougars collide with the Washington Huskies to compete in this year’s Apple Cup in Seattle, Washington.

Cougars vs. Huskies
When: 7:30 PM ET, Saturday, November 26, 2011
Where: Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA
TV: N/A
LINE: -8.5 (Washington), O/U 65

The Cougars have already eclipsed last year’ record but were shot down losing 30-27 at home by an interception during overtime followed by a Utes field goal.

Washington State was led by freshman QB Connor Halliday who hooked for a pair of TDs while going 21-of-48 for 290 yards including an 9-yard touchdown pass to Jared Karstetter in the final 3:47.

The Cougs then drove 74 yards in 52 seconds to setup the game-tying on Andrew Furney’s 17-yard field goal with no time remaining in regulation.

But it would all be wasted after Washington State committed its fifth turnover on its opening drive in overtime, and Coleman Petersen’s 38-yard field goal gave Utah its fourth straight win.

Meanwhile, UW was upset 38-21 in Corvallis by Oregon State, and has now lost four of its last five games after starting the season 5-1.

If not for the efforts of running back Chris Polk who rushed 25 times for 109 yards, the final outcome could have been worse. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Washington was outgained 484-315 as the defense collapsed while freshman quarterback Nick Montana was held to just 79 yards in his first start before being pulled at the start of the fourth quarter. IN defense of Montana, he did toss for two touchdowns.

Keith Price, who didn’t start because of a knee injury, replaced Montana and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass on his first drive to cut Oregon State’s lead to 31-21, but it wasn’t enough as Jovan Stevenson added to the Beavers tally with a 1-yard. TD run with just over two minutes to go.

Both teams have struggle are year defensively and rank near the bottom in scoring defense in the NCAA.

UW is 5-1 in Seattle with three of the wins coming by single digits and another coming by 11 against Arizona. In the meantime, the Cougs are1-4 on the road this year but did put up a fight at Oregon and UCLA.

Matt’s Prediction: Washington 31, Washington State 12–

The way the Huskies have been playing as of late and the fact it’s the Apple Cup, I’m not at all certain Washington even beats the WSU here.

However, I’ll take them anyway as I am certain that they find a way to cover the spread and eek one out at home.
