Stanford is loaded in every position on the offensive side of the ball, and their 57-3 blowout of San Jose State in their season opener showed it.

Now, heading into their second week of the season, they will face their second warm up opponent in the Duke Blue Devils.

Duke has been an enigma in terms of their football team, and it is likely that the majority of the fans in the stadium will have just shown up to get a chance to see the best quarterback in the nation — Stanford’s Andrew Luck.

The Blue Devils lost their season opener against Richmond 23-21, a game they should have won, besting the Spiders in every stat except the one that matters. The final score.

Duke’s scoring came from its rushing corps as three different backs scored for the Blue Devils, combining for 178 of Dukes 379 offensive yards.

Meanwhile, the Cardinal have their eyes set on one thing and one thing only, a Pac-12 championship and a chance to play for the crystal football. They have everything a team needs to compete, a stout defense, a deadly passing game and a consistent running game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

In the team’s first game, Luck had a solid, but not eye-popping, performance as he completed just 17 of 26 passes for two touchdowns. The game was out of reach though quickly, and Luck didn’t need to throw his way to a victory.

Everyone knows what Luck can do when he needs to, and it isn’t likely that we’ll see that this week, and I think everyone will be a little disappointed again.

The area of the offense that will likely get the most time in the limelight is the running game, which is led by junior Stepfan Taylor who rushed for 68 and two touchdowns on Saturday.

The cou de gra for opposing defenses is to go into games against Stanford looking to stop nothing but Luck, and often are shelled by a tremendous running game.

NCAA Gambling Trends:

STAN are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 road games.
Over is 13-6 in STAN last 19 games overall.
Over is 7-1 in DUKE last 8 games in September.
Over is 13-3 in DUKE last 16 non-conference games.
Over is 19-7-1 in DUKE last 27 home games.

Matt’s Prediction: Stanford 35, Duke 6–

If Duke shows any life in this game, that’s when the country will get to see Luck let loose, but I doubt that will happen. With all the offensive talent that Stanford has, their defense often gets overlooked, and for the second straight week they will keep their opponents out of the end zone.
