The No. 9 Oregon Ducks will look to take out their frustration and get back some self respect by grabbing a spot in this year’s Pac-12 title game, by defeating the visiting Oregon State Beavers on Saturday, in the annual “Civil War” game.

Beavers’ head coach Mike Riley may have extended his time on the sidelines with a big 38-21 win over the Washington Huskies to snap a three-game losing streak last Saturday.

Although senior wide receiver James Rodgers set the school’s career receptions record with 222 against the Huskies, it was running back Jovan Stevenson that stole the show, rushing for three second-half touchdowns.

Rodgers exited the game in the second quarter with a sprained ankle, and could miss the final contest of his stellar career.

Meanwhile, redshirt freshman quarterback Sean Mannion threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns for Oregon State, which entered the game ranked last in the Pac-12 in scoring.

Regardless of where the Beavers end up at season’s end, the future of OS football looks bright, as Mannion has grown leaps and bounds on his way to throwing for 3,028 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year. However, some extra work will be needed in the summer as he has also been intercepted 16 times. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

As for the Ducks, they looked awful in their game against the Trojans last week, and trailed by as many 24 points, before rallying and eventually losing on a missed game-tying 37-yard field-goal attempt by sophomore kicker Alejandro Maldonado.

Now, if the Ducks lose to Oregon State, Stanford wins the Pac-12 North.

Making sure that won’t happen is one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award and vying to become only the third two-time winner of the award that goes to the nation’s top running back, junior LaMichael.

James has rushed for 1,285 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season, but was held to a paltry 74 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries against USC.

While James was MIA against the Trojans, Kenjon Barner picked up the slack, and had 16 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown. More proof showing how deep this Oregon team really is.

Oregon leads the all-time series 58-46-10 and has won the last three meetings.

Matt’s Prediction: Oregon 51, Oregon State 16 —

The Ducks have scored more than 500 points in each of the past two seasons and it figures that they will be looking to take out their frustrations over the USC loss with an all out assault on the Beavers who looking to avoid its first nine-loss season since going 2-9 in 1996.

Riley has a 4-6 record against Oregon in two stints as Beavers’ coach and its going to be 4-7 after Saturday’s slaughter.
