Pac 12 Week 8: Ducks vs. Buffaloes Preview & Prediction

Oregon Ducks vs. Colorado Buffaloes NCAA Football Odds

The No. 8 Ducks will try and spoil Colorado’s dream of grabbing its first PAC 12 conference win when they roll into Boulder on Saturday.

Ducks vs. Buffaloes
When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, October 22, 2011
Where: Folsom Field, Boulder, Colorado
TV: ESPN, ESPN 3
LINE: Oregon -30.5
Over/Under: 63.5

The Ducks may be hobbled, and may be slowed a little, but it won’t stop the Eugene Machine.

After starting off slowly in their game against the Arizona State Sun Devils, offensively fumbling on their first possession, the Ducks took advantage of their defense’s efforts by tying the game at seven on a 16-yard touchdown run by freshman RB De’Anthony Thomas who did a nice job filling the void left by injured running back LaMichael James.

But the tie was short lived as the Sun Devils stormed back to regain a 14-7 lead.

Oregon thought they had tied it on the ensuing drive, but an illegal block negated a TD, until senior WR Lavasier Tuinei hauled in Darron Thomas’ 28-yard pass in the corner of the end zone to cap the drive.

However, Arizona took the lead once again, but after a lapse by the Oregon defense, they came up big, intercepting Brock Osweiler and running it back to midfield. From there it took Oregon 24 seconds on three plays to navigate the rest of the field to go up 21-17 at the break.

Later in third and trailing by three, the Ducks’ Thomas was unable to finish the contest, leaving in game with a tweaked knee and replaced by freshman Bryan Bennett, who led the Ducks down the field with the De’Anthony Thomas finding his way to the end zone capping a six-play 68-yard drive in 1:50.

Bennett’s performance was nothing short of inspirational and proves just how deep this Oregon team really is. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Kenjon Barner’s 5-yard TD dash extended the Ducks lead to nine later in the third and three fourth quarter field goals was all the Ducks needed to walk away with a 41-27 victory.

Barner finished with 171 yards and 31 carries.

Meanwhile, Colorado was slammed 52-24 in Seattle by No. 25 Washington its last time out.

The loss dropped the Buffs to 1-6 overall and they are still winless after two in conference play.

Colorado began each period strong scoring on senior quarterback Tyler Hansen’s passing touchdown to senior wide receiver Kyle Cefalo, freshman placekicker Will Oliver’s 46-yard field goal and freshman running back Tony Jones running one in to begin the final two quarters. However the remaining parts of the quarters are what killed their chances of winning.

Now they will get another chance against a weakened, but not broken Oregon team that are likely to be without two of their biggest starters.

Both squads match up well size wise, but the difference however is speed.

Oregon’s speed is deceptively fast as they can beat you through the air or on the ground.

No matter who is under center or behind the QB, Oregon should roll against the Buffaloes who might be rethinking their decision to join the Pacific-12 Conference after what will unquestionably be another loss.

Matt’s Prediction: Oregon 45 – Colorado 24
