Pac 12 Week 6: Golden Bears vs. Ducks Preview & Prediction

Golden Bears vs Ducks NCAA Football Odds

Will the Cal Bears (3-1, 0-1) be ready for the high speed offensive moves of the #9 Oregon Ducks (3-1, 1-0) when the two PAC 12 foes meet up tonight?

And more importantly, will the world be ready for yet another new OU uniform? The Ducks are unveiling the new retro jerseys on what could be their 19th consecutive victory when playing at Autzen Field.

Cal just about ruined OU’s undefeated regular season last year when they lost 15-13 in a nail biter in Berkeley. But the Bear’s had to resort to faking injuries to slow down the Duck’s no huddle offense and they won’t be able to pull off that trick again this year. After that match up, Cal defensive coach Tosh Lupoi was handed a one game suspension for the hijinks.

Following watching Ducks running back, and Heisman Trophy candidate, LaMichael James in action, you can hardly blame him for resorting to desperate measure to put the brakes on the Ducks. Two weeks ago against Arizona, James broke two school records when he ran for 288 yards, while bringing his OU touchdown number to 43. Oregon won that game 56-31.

The high powered Ducks offense has been racking up an average of 52 points a games this season and has run all over every opponent this year except #1 LSU. And that success is due in big part to their running game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Fortunately, if any team has a shot at slowing down this offensive juggernaut, it’s the Cal Bears. So far this season the boys from Berkeley have been allowing less than 79 rushing yards a game. When they played the Ducks last year, the Cal defensive line held James to less than four yards a carry, the lowest of any opponent.

Offensively, Zach Maynard has had decent numbers this year, but he’s going to need to be a lot more productive if he hopes to keep up with the Ducks. Cal has barely scratched out wins against un-ranked opponents like Colorado and Fresno State, so they’d better bring a little more to Eugene if they have any chance at all of putting off a wind.

Both of these teams take the field at 2-2 ATS, but the smart money is going to be taking the over on this one. If the Ducks move quickly and put up lots of points, the Bears will still have plenty of chances to score, making 66 total points a real possibility.

Still, Oregon seems to be the logical choice here. After losing to #1 LSU, they’ve sharpened up their game and they’ll also be playing to protect that home winning streak. And you can also bet that after last year’s close call, they won’t be looking past the Bears.

Matt’s Prediction: Oregon 48-30
