Pac 12 Week 5: Arizona vs. USC Preview & Prediction

Wildcats vs Trojans NCAA Football Betting

A pair of teams looking to get back on the rails. The difference is only one’s season matters. But that won’t keep the Trojans from wanting to spoil the Wildcats’ chances of going bowling when they meet up in LA this weekend.

Arizona has lost to three ranked teams in a row, and will look to the equally troubled 3-1 Trojans, who were whipped at Arizona State, as a bit of a reprieve. Both teams need a win, but the Wildcats are trying to snap an eight-game losing streak against FBS foes.

QB Nick Foles has no problem finding the end zone, already throwing for 1,447 yards, 10 TDs and no interceptions this year. The problem with Arizona is its defense, which is giving up an average of 47 points a game and has lost three straight by a combined 75 points.

Foles again led Arizona’s offense on Saturday against the mighty Ducks, throwing three touchdowns passes in a 56-31 loss. He got the ‘Cats to within 11 after hitting David Roberts for a 7-yard score and connecting with David Douglas on a two-point conversion pass, but the defense collapsed and Oregon responded driving 75 yards on eight plays to boost their lead to 42-24. The Trojans meanwhile, committed four turnovers en route to a 43-22 loss to Arizona State last weekend.
A 41-yard interception return for a touchdown with 6:37 remaining sealed the deal as the Trojans fell to the Sun Devils for the first time in 11 times.

Southern California’s rushing attack was nowhere to be found in the first half, but emerged after halftime as the Trojans established two touchdown drives of 65 and 80 yards, to take a 22-21 lead midway through the third quarter.

Meanwhile, USC quarterback Matt Barkley had his worst game as a Trojan against Arizona State, and with the exception of the two series in the third quarter, he was pressured repeatedly and finished 21-of-33 for 227 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown.

Matt’s Prediction: USC 36, Arizona 28–The Trojans can match the ‘Cats offensive production, and does have a better defense. So I like the Trojans chances of extending Arizona’s FBS losing streak to nine games.

Although beating the Wildcats by two TDs will be hard, if USC’s D can hold up, they should walk away with a win in this one.
