Georgia

Mark Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs have looked very convincing in the last couple weeks (decisive victories against Tennessee and Vandy) but had a miserable four-game stretch in September where they lost to the likes of Mississippi State and Colorado. A victory at Kentucky this week would at least offer Georgia the chance of finishing strong with a couple more winnable games (Idaho State, Georgia Tech, perhaps Florida) on the slate.

Young QB Aaron Murray has been strong with 1,653 yards and 12 TDs. Unfortunately, the running game hasn’t been up to its usual caliber and the defense has been porous compared to the dynamic athletes UGa is accustomed to pumping out Between the Hedges. Considering junior WR A.J. Green is such a match-up terror (6”4, 212 lbs with speed to spare) he’s only had a ho-hum 16 catches for 279 yards in 2010.

If the stars align and the talent works like a well-oiled machine this week, Georgia has the ability to dispatch UK without much trouble. The thing is, this confluence of forces hasn’t happened all too often this season – and Kentucky is coming off an encouraging victory against South Carolina.

Kentucky

Morale is high after the Wildcats escaped with a wispy 31-28 victory against ranked South Carolina at home last week. Kentucky QB Mike Hartline played a great game in the upset and he leads an offense that can score plenty of points. Do-everything threat Randall Cobb certainly makes Hartline’s job much easier.

After losing to Auburn by just three points and then handling SC last week, the Wildcats have proven that they can play with anybody. They aren’t going to be intimidated by the conference’s marquee programs. Yet, opponents can score on Kentucky, so if the Bulldogs got Green to wake up and also started moving the ball on the ground, Kentucky could be playing catch up.

If Kentucky finds a way to beat Georgia, it could very well win out the remainder of its season schedule (Mississippi State, Charleston Southern, Vanderbilt and Tennessee). A major hurdle to that end would be crossed if Kentucky gets another win this week in Lexington.

The Pick: This could be a really close game, as normal big boy Georgia hasn’t played to expectations and normal shrimp Kentucky has exceeded them. Ultimately, if Georgia plays like it can, the morale in Lexington will probably be muted somewhat.

Gambling Trends:
