Fresno State

Fresno had an impressive win over Cincinnati to kick off the campaign (28-14 on Sept. 4) and the offense has been efficient enough (27th in the nation in points for) to lead the Bulldogs to a solid season thus far. The program is riding high after back-to-back convincing wins over New Mexico State and San Jose State; the Tech game will be a nice rev up for upcoming challenges against ranked Nevada and Boise State, the big boy in a little playground.

Field general Ryan Colburn has looked good when the stage has been big, and his responsible ratios (13-6 TD/INT) prove it. However, will Fresno be guilty of overlooking Tech en route to the upcoming difficult clashes? Fresno cannot lose its focus, otherwise it will lose on the road. Sophomore RB Robbie Rouse has looked good with the ball also – and Fresno needs performances from Colburn, Rouse and a continued strong defensive effort to improve the ledger before the big end of season tests.

Louisiana Tech

In the Battle of the Bulldogs this week, are hoping to use some home cookin’ (probably an alligator cook-out or some such thing) to pull everything together versus Fresno. Tech looked strong in two straight wins before last week, where they then lost (but didn’t get totally embarrassed) by the aforementioned Boise, 49-20.

The home Bulldogs can run the football just as well as the road ones. Tennessee transfer Lennon Creer is on track for 1,000+ yards and double-digit touchdowns. The defense has given up a combined 94 points in the past two weeks to teams from the state of Idaho, so that absolutely must change ASAP.

A win at home this week would be a nice way to gather some steam with two upcoming winnable games on the slate. A string of wins to end the season might prevent these Bulldogs from being in the boosters’ collective doghouse.

The Pick: Creer will probably eat up yards and Tech QB Ross Jenkins is a decent custodian. Fresno is probably the more talented team here, but I see them being guilty of looking ahead in this game, and being vulnerable to a motivated home side. Tech in a close one.

Fresno State vs. Louisiana Tech Score Prediction: Fresno 30 La. Tech 33
