Wake Forest vs. Boston College Betting | Week 5 Free Pick

CFB Football Previews – Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs Boston College Eagles

Entering Week 5, most bettors would’ve expected Wake Forest to be 1-3 and Boston College to be 2-1, not the other way around. Will the topsy-turvy ACC season continue or will a home game for Boston College bring balance back to the universe?

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-1)

Is 2011 already a success for Wake Forest? Some bettors and pundits were so low on the Demon Deacons that they might not have expected more than the two victories they already have through two games.

We can’t get too excited about Week 3’s victory. It was Gardner-Webb, a.k.a. no one, so a 48-5 result was to be expected. But Wake Forest’s victory the week prior over N.C. State really meant something. Quarterback Tanner Price looks like the real deal through three games, going 61 of 98 for 867 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.

On paper, the Deacons look like they can move the ball through the air and play shutdown “D.” But can they keep the trends going against a much tougher opponent than Gardner-Webb?

Boston College Eagles (1-3)

Last week’s game reminded us that all hope is not lost for Boston College. It’s a long season and the Eagles took some major positives away from their 45-17 win over UMass. For one, star running back Montel Harris returned from his preseason knee surgery. Sure, he ran for just 27 yards for nine carries, but some rust was to be expected. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

He should have more bounce in his step this week.

Also encouraging: quarterback Chase Rettig finally had a good game after opening the season with three stinkers. He threw for only 196 yards but for three touchdowns against UMass.

The pick:

It feels like the perfect time to capitalize on some minor underdog value with Boston College playing at home. The Eagles should be underestimated this week. Their offense will be far more dangerous and versatile with Harris set to handle a full workload. Rettig won’t be asked to do nearly as much.

Boston College has also shown flashes of its nation-leading run defense of a year ago, holding its opponents under 4.0 yards per carry in its last two games. Wake Forest hasn’t run the ball effectively this season, so the Eagles may bottle the Deacs up and force Price to pass in a one-dimensional attack.

I like Boston College to redeem itself this week.
