Iowa State must now face a Kansas State team that scored three unanswered  fourth-quarter touchdowns last Saturday, beating West Virginia, 35-12.

K-State used its potent quarterback tandem of junior Jake Waters and sophomore Daniel Sams to produced a combined 362 total yards and four touchdowns just one week after Sams recorded a 199-yard, three touchdown rushing performance against Baylor. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

In the meantime, Waters finished 10-of-13 for 198 yards and three touchdowns and added 55 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Sams connected on 8-of-8 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats offense also got a push from senior running back John Hubert who rushed for 86 yards and a score, while the receiving duo of juniors Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton posted big numbers with eight catches for 111 yards and three touchdowns, and six catches for 112 yards, respectively.

Defensively, the Wildcats surrendered 367 total yards to West Virginia, including 264 passing and 103 rushing, while forcing three turnovers and allowing just 4-of-16 third down conversions.

That level of defensive play is going to smother the Cyclones, whose only hope for bowl eligibility, will require a miracle, starting with K-State.

Against the Cowboys, the Cyclones posted a decent 346 total yards, but conceded 420 total yards, of which a 342 came on the ground.  A place the Wildcats are very good.

K-State is the favorite here by two scores. And while you have to wonder if Iowa State is due for their annual upset, their offense is pitiful, and there defense has disappeared.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats seem to have found a little spark, which I expect they will most certainly build into a raging offensive fire as the roll to a big victory at home in this one.

Kansas State 51, Iowa State 10
