By virtue of their 6 and 6 record, the Wyoming Cowboys get to take on one of the better offensive teams in college football this season in the Fresno State Bulldogs. Wyoming’s claim to fame in the 2009-2010 College Football Season has been to lose to TCU 45 to 10 and Texas 41 to 10.

The Cowboys did manage to win at least 6 games, though, which is why they’re traveling south to New Mexico for this game.

Fresno State’s claim to fame this college football season has been falling to Boise State 51 to 34 and to Illinois 53 to 52. Fresno State averages 34 points per game and 436 yards per game. The Bulldogs’ offense might be the key to finding the best wager in this.

Below are the BetUS NCAA Football odds for this game:

Wyoming Cowboys +12 -110 +375 O 55 -110
Fresno State Bulldogs -12 -110 -475 U 55 -110

Here are a few online sports betting trends for this game.

The Wyoming Cowboys are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games versus an opponent from the WAC.
The Under is 13 and 6 in the Wyoming Cowboys last 19 non-conference games.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are 8 and 22 ATS in their last 30 games as the favorite.
The Over is 5 and 1 in the Bulldogs last 6 non-conference games.

This is a very difficult game to handicap, all bowl games are, because you never really know what’s going to happen when two teams that know nothing about each other end up on the field together.

The last time these two teams met was 1997 so that outcome clearly means absolutely nothing in this game. What does, though, is analyzing each teams’ record this season.

One thing that stands out for me is the fact that the Fresno State Bulldogs have only kept three teams at 17 points or less this season. Hawaii put up 17 in the Bulldogs 42 to 17 victory. UC-Davis was thumped 51 to 0 in a game where the odds makers didn’t even bother creating a line, and New Mexico State was held to 3 points in the Bulldogs 34 to 3 victory.

In Wyoming’s six losses, to Texas, Colorado, Air Force, Utah, BYU and TCU, they scored a combined 30 points. In their 6 victories, the Cowboys put up a combined 173 points. What stands out about those 6 losses? All of the teams were decent if not great this season. Both Texas and TCU ended up in the Top 5 in the BCS Rankings this season and both BYU and Utah showed up in the AP Top 25.

Fresno State allows 27.8 points per game. They’ve given up 52 to Nevada, 28 to Louisiana Tech and 52 to Illinois in their last 3 games. Because the Cowboys figure to bet no worse than 14 points away from the Bulldogs in this game, and the Bulldogs will put up at least 34 points in this contest, the best bet is on the over in this.

Fresno State could pull away by 17 to 20 points late in the game. All that means is that the score will be something like Fresno State 42 to Wyoming 20.

OUR PLAY: I’m betting over the total of 55 in this game.
