Cornhuskers vs Gamecocks Betting Free pick

South Carolina can achieve the most wins in their history with a win over Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl, but the Gamecocks have dropped 3 straight bowl games.

Spread: South Carolina -2.5
Over/Under:  46

Both Nebraska and South Carolina have a great rushing offense and the team that can play better D has the big advantage in this bowl game. NCAAF odds have South Carolina as slight 2.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 46.

In their last games Nebraska beat Iowa 20-7 and South Carolina beat Clemson 34-13.

On the season Nebraska was 4-7-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 5-7 and South Carolina was 6-6 with an Over/Under record of 6-6.

South Carolina had to deal with some team issues this season with lead RB lost for the season midway through this season with a knee injury and the dismissal of their starting QB Stephen Garcia. However, Connor Shaw stepped up when he took over under center and in the last win over Clemson was 14/20 and also rushed for over 100 yards. Freshman RB Brandon Wilds rushed for over 100 yards in 3 of the last 5 games of the season.

Nebraska has a solid pass defense, but the Gamecocks do not air it out much and the Huskers’ run defense only ranks 66th in the nation.

The Nebraska offensive line must contain South Carolina defender Melvin Ingram, who is a first team All American and had 8.5 sacks and 2 INT this season.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

South Carolina has the nation’s 44th ranked run defense and they will have a tall order in this game trying to contain Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead, who rushed for 160 yards in the season finale against Iowa, and duel threat QB Taylor Martinez, who rushed for 837 yards with 9 TD this season.

Martinez ended the season well completing almost 58% of his passes with 4 TD and 0 INT, but the Huskers only rank 103rd in the nation in passing yards per game. On top of that the aerial attack will be difficult in this game facing a Gamecocks’ pass defense that ranks 2nd in the nation.

Betting Trends

Nebraska is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, e 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games.

South Carolina is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, e 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite of 0.5-3 points, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games.

Jason’s Pick: I like the Gamecocks in this game, as I think they have a better D and that will be the difference. South Carolina will cover in this game and take the Under as well, as this game will be a defensive battle.
