Head Coach: Steve Fairchild
2009 Record: 3-9

Colorado St. Gambling Odds from Sportsbook.com to win BCS: +150000

The Colorado State Rams started the season 3-0 and it appeared the program was on the verge of turning things around. From that point on, the wheels fell completely off as they lost their last nine games of the year and finished 3-9.

The Rams didn’t win a single game in MWC play last year, and fans are starting to get fed up with this lack of progress.

The Rams had a host of injuries in 2009, but they have bigger problems than that. In many areas their team is lacking depth and they have yet to settle on a quarterback to lead their team.

The program has clearly lost the winning attitude it had in the early 2000’s, and if progress is not seen soon Fairchild and his staff could be on the move.

Team Strengths:

The Rams are definitely deep at the running back position. It is unclear who the starter will be, but no matter who starts, there will likely be at least three or four guys that play on a consistent basis. Raymond Carter, who transferred in from UCLA, is expected to contribute right away in the backfield.

The linebackers should be strong this year as they will get Ricky Brewer back after he had to sit out in 2009. Brewer was the leading tackler for the Rams in 2008 and is their defensive leader.

The linebackers should be able to cover plenty of ground and I would expect them to help the defense improve on last year’s poor numbers.

Team Weaknesses:

It will likely be a freshman running the show at the quarterback spot for the Rams, and that is always a concern. If that isn’t bad enough, there isn’t a single starting wide receiver back from last year’s team either. While the running game will be solid, the passing game may have trouble getting off the ground.

The offensive line is another big area of concern. The coaching staff believes that the players they are plugging in here are ready, but changes on the line in front of a raw quarterback can be a recipe for disaster.

The defense was dead-last in the country in third down conversion defense, allowing opponents to get a first down a shocking 54.7% of times. The best in the country last year, Texas, allowed just 26.5%; so the Rams have a real problem area here.

2010-2011 Colorado State Rams Football Predictions: 4-8

The Rams are a tough team to predict because it is hard to say how a team will react to losing its final nine games of the season. They should be a little better, but I think the quarterback situation is going to hurt them badly. The defense will be improved and they will probably be in more games, but I think they’ll fall just short in many of those games.

I expect another long season for the Rams.
