Capital One Bowl – Nebraska vs Georgia Gambling Prediction & Bowl Preview

Cornhuskers vs Bulldogs College Football Spread/Handicapping

Georgia nearly beat Alabama but because of the current rules they get a lame matchup against Nebraska on New Year’s Day.  From what we have seen lately there is a huge difference in class in this matchup.

Nebraska

The last time Nebraska played they were dismantled by Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game.  Still it was a successful season for the Huskers.  Coach Bo Pelini finally broke into double digits in the win column and they did go 7-1 in Big Ten play.  For what it is worth they are 1-1 against Wisconsin in 2012 having beaten the Badgers in the conference opener…

After giving up 70 points last time out the Huskers had better tighten up their defense.

Against Wisconsin they gave up a staggering 539 yards on the ground and Georgia is pretty good at running the ball too.  Nebraska’s own running game can be dynamic but Taylor Martinez is as likely to win a game for Nebraska as for the other team it seems some times.

He is going to have to be near perfect against a very good Georgia defense…Despite breaking through their glass ceiling they weren’t making any fans in Vegas with their 6-6-1 record ATS.

Based on what we have seen from these teams this number might actually be a little generous.

It makes you wonder if oddsmakers think Georgia might just be spent and disappointed enough to make this one close.

Georgia

I have to admit I was really pulling for the Bulldogs in that SEC Title game.

I have liked this Georgia team all season long and something just bugs me about Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.  They were close so this will be a good test of coach Mark Richt as that loss knocked them out of the BCS picture altogether…

Georgia is stacked on offense with an NFL calibre signal caller in Aaron Murray and a backfield featuring a couple of fantastic freshman  in Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, who each average more than 6 yards per carry.

They must be licking their chops after seeing what the Badgers did to the Huskers.  Murray is super efficient though he doesn’t have the gamebreakers he has had in the past (A.J. Green!!!)…

Georgia started slow and was stinging bettors early but down the stretch they won 5 of their last 6 against the number.  Dawg fans should be out in full force due to the proximity of the game and I think the number right now is great value.

The key is motivation.  If they aren’t in it you could see something like when they played Kentucky.

Winning by just 5 as 25 point favourites.

Spread Pick:   Georgia -8.5
