Fresno State Bulldogs vs. #10 Nebraska Cornhuskers Preview

NCAAF lines have the Huskers as HUGE 28-point home favorites with a total of 50 points.

This is the first ever meetings between these 2 schools. It is interesting that the Huskers have not lost to a WAC school since falling 6-0 to Hawaii way back in 1955!

In their first games of the season Nebraska had no problems in beating Chattanooga 40-7 while Fresno State did have some big problems that they hope will not linger on to this Saturday in their 36-21 loss to California.

Can the Bulldogs move the ball against a Huskers’ defense that held Chattanooga to only 230 total yards including only 1.9 yards per carry? That may be tough and to do so they will need a big game from QB Derek Carr, who was 21/33 for 144 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in the loss to Cal. He has some good WR’s, but his offensive line, which has 4 new starters this season and gave up 4 sacks last week, has to keep him off his butt and give him time in the pocket.

FSU RB Robbie Rouse had 86 carries last week against Cal averaging a legit 5.1 yards per carry and he may get more touches this Saturday, as Bulldogs head coach Pat Hill said they should have used him more against Cal. Rouse will be facing a tough Huskers’ run defense, but he will have to run the ball well not only for the offense, but to keep the Nebraska offense off the field. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Bulldogs gave up 413 total yards to Cal (266 passing yards 147 rushing yards) and they will be facing a new no-huddle Nebraska offense led by QB Taylor Martinez, who rushed for 135 yards and 3 TD and was 11 of 22 for 116 yards passing against Chattanooga.

The Fresno State defense was torched last season by teams with good rushing attacks and they will need to step up against Martinez and RB Rex Burkhead, who both averaged around 7 yards per carry last week. If the Bulldogs cannot stop the run they will be muzzled big time.

Betting Trends

Fresno State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, and has an Over record of 6-1 in their last 7 road games.
Nebraska is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games, 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite of 10.5 or more, and an Under record of 6-1 in their last 7 home games.

In an interesting betting trend for this game Fresno State has covered the spread in 4 out of their last 5 games against teams from the Big 12.

Jason’s Pick:

OK, well first things first, the Bulldogs will not win this game. However, they have nothing to lose and they know it so there is not much pressure on them.

Carr will air it out and lead the Bulldogs to a few scored, so they will be able to cover the 28-point spread and the total will go Over.
