Week 10 CFB Handicapping: Boise State Broncos vs. UNLV Rebels Prediction

Boise St. Broncos vs UNLV Rebels NCAA Football Gambling Lines

After its first-ever conference game against Air Force, Boise State used a valuable bye last week to regather its strength before traveling to Las Vegas to play UNLV this weekend.

Life as the Boise State Broncos – the target of every opponent on the schedule – can be stressful, especially since the BSU program has gotten used to the habit of wondering which computers and voters will downgrade the Broncos.

All Boise State can do is keep winning, and UNLV is the next opponent on the slate in the 2011 season.

It’s been a battle for the Rebels, who have struggled on defense and labored even worse in their attempt to push the ball downfield via the forward pass. UNLV has rotated between Caleb Herring and Sean Reilly at quarterback throughout the season, but as of now it appears Herring is at the helm after last week.

Reilly was removed in the first quarter after throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown, and Herring led the Rebels to a 38-35 win over Colorado State.

At 2-5, UNLV is hoping to reverse its bad fortunes of this season and move the Bobby Hauck era to the next level—but such hopes are almost certain to be put on hold for this week. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Boise State is a grinding and substantially physical team, an appreciably evident fact football life, but a fact for which the Broncos seem to get little credit. Far from the cute team running trick plays in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, a picture that can’t seem to be removed from fans and journalists, the Broncos are tough and efficient.

Boise’s defense allows just 16 points per game and ranks 16th in yards allowed. Meanwhile, the offense takes on the personality of senior quarterback Kellen Moore. Tough, smart, and efficient, the Broncos rack up 488 yards and 43 points per game and make very few mistakes, leading them to rank sixth in the nation in turnover margin.

It will be everything UNLV can do to come out intact… and by intact, one should say “anything less than a walking MASH unit.” It’s hard enough to play Boise State at any time or under any circumstance; facing the Broncos after a BSU bye week?

That’s a most unfortunate reality for the Rebels, who should get drilled on their home field.

Pick: Boise State
