College football odds for the Big Ten have confirmed what everyone was thinking: it’s Ohio State and Penn State, and the rest of the conference. Iowa and Wisconsin will be looking to elbow their way into the party.

The Buckeyes are +150 favorites to win the conference, and their defense may have to work extra hard early in the season while Terrelle Pryor gets used to the new skill players around him. The defense will have its own worries as James Laurintaitis and Marcus Freeman will no longer be leading the linebacking corps. The Buckeyes will try to avenge a thumping at USC last year when the Trojans come to Columbus on August 12th, and the November 7th trip to Penn State should decide the Big Ten champion. Penn State is next at +200 in their attempted title defense, and they also have a lot to replace as their entire secondary is gone, as well as their top four receivers from 2008. Darryl Clark will have his hands full trying to replicate last year’s success, but at Evan Royster is back with him in the backfield. Their date with the Buckeyes is easily the biggest game on their slate, and it’ll definitely be worth the price per head for ticketholders.

Iowa is rated at +500, and the Hawkeyes ruined Penn State’s chance at an unbeaten season with a home upset late in the season. They return eight starters from a group that was 12th in the country, while pivot Ricky Stanzi is one of six returning starters. The Hawkeyes will try and replace Shonn Greene’s 1,850 yards on the ground, and their top three receivers are also gone. Still, with their defense, those who make sports picks will consider Iowa to be a decent sleeper selection.

Wisconsin comes in at +800 according to sports betting software, and they’re in good shape offensively as quarterback Dustin Sherer is back, along with their top two receivers and running backs, which makes up for having only two starters return up front. There are five starters back on defense, but they’re missing their top three tacklers from 2008. Back-to-back October road games at Minnesota and Ohio State will either put the Badgers out of the Big Ten running, or give them some momentum for a favorable closing stretch.

I still like Ohio as the fav in the Big 10 even though the defense may be a little shaky in the 2009-10 season.

The Big Ten title should come down the Penn St at Ohio St game. While Iowa and Wisconsin may be able to make things interesting, the Big Ten is a two team race this season.
