The Wildcats have been hit or miss this season, whereas the Buffaloes have been bad all year. Arizona is going to get their points this week, but you can’t necessarily say the same thing for Colorado.

Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes may not be the worst team in football from a statistical standpoint, but they sure are close. On offense, the team is averaging just 16.1 points per game this season. Their passing attack has been anemic, as they’ve gone for just 193.2 yards per contest (99th in the nation), but their ground game has been even worse, as they’ve averaged less than 100 yards per game.

Defensively, it doesn’t get any better. Colorado has allowed 46.2 points per game, which is the second-worst in the country. They rank in the 100’s in every major defensive category, which is going to spell trouble this weekend.

UCLA exposed how to beat Arizona last weekend. If you take away the pass, you take away their offense. The Wildcats scored just 10 points against the Bruins, and it all came down to their quarterback not being able to complete his passes. The only chance Colorado has in the desert is if Matt Scott has a complete breakdown for the second week in a row.

Arizona Wildcats

The Arizona Wildcats disappointed fans last week against the UCLA Bruins following their statement win against the USC Trojans. A loss is bad in any case, but the worst part is that the Bruins were able to take away the offensive attack that the Wildcats have become known for this season. Quarterback Matt Scott threw just 15-of-24 for 124 yards and zero touchdowns. The team also rushed for just 121 yards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If the team wants to get back on track, it’s going to start with putting up more points. Ten points isn’t going to cut it for a team that is giving up so many this season. On average, Arizona scores 35.9 points per game, which puts them in the top 30. Their passing attack has been elite, having averaged 330.1 per game. Assuming last week was simply an off game, this team is going to get back on track quickly.

The problem for the Wildcats this season has been that while their offense is good enough to outscore most of their opponents, their defense hasn’t given them any room to wiggle when it comes to the final score. They’re allowing 35 points per game, which is only good enough for 108th in the country. They’re 122nd in total yards allowed, they’re 121st in passing yards allowed and the only area where they’ve shown competence is in rushing yards allowed, which is still only good enough for 88th in the country. Arizona’s defense has been bad this season, but luckily for them, the Buffaloes are coming to town.

With the Buffaloes’ problems on the offensive side of the ball, Arizona should be facing their easiest opponent yet. When it comes down to it, Colorado can’t score or defend this season, which should result in the Wildcats rolling the team from Boulder this weekend.
