Bearcats vs Blue Devils College Football Spread/Handicapping

When it is Duke and not hardwood it is hard to get excited.  This year’s team isn’t a total pushover but I am not sure they are ready to win a bowl game just yet.

Cincinnati

The Bearcats finished tied for first place in the Big East this season.  Not bad given they lost to both the teams they shared the title with – Louisville and Rutgers.  Those and a loss to Toledo were the only blemishes for a program that has been the most consistent in the league of late.

They faced another ACC opponent earlier this season beating Virginia Tech back when that was thought to be impressive…Statistically the Bearcats are strong.  They possess the 12th stingiest defense in America, giving up just 17ppg and are a nicely balanced offensive team, averaging close to 200 yards on the ground.

Running back George Winn finally got a chance to shine and exploded with more than 1200 yards.

Don’t forget about Munchie Legaux.  The long and lean pivot has a little Kaepernick to his game.  Brendon Kay has been effective since given the opportunity but I think we will still see Muchie a little bit in this one…

Cincinnati is the obvious favourite for this one.  I am actually surprised it wasn’t a bigger number given Duke stumbled the second half of the season.

Does the fact that the game is in NC really make that much of a difference.

Bet the Bearcats with confidence. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Duke

Duke is playing in just its second bowl game ever.  They got that magic 6th victory on October 20 but struggled over the last month losing 4 straight to close the season.

To be fair it was against the toughest part of their schedule as they faced 4 bowl teams.  This team is solid but not overly talented…For Duke to have a chance they have to get the passing game going.

Sean Renfree is an experience pivot with a couple of nice weapons in receivers Connor Vernon and Jamison Crowder both have 70 or more catches and 950 more yards receiving.

In contrast the rushing attack is ranked 107th in the nation, and everyone knows it…What you see is what you get with Duke and by that I mean that their SU results are matched by their ATS results.

In all of their wins they covered and in all of their losses they didn’t.

I am not sure you can really call that a trend but you could make it another reason to grab Cincinnati in this one…unless you think Duke is going to win.

Spread Pick:  Cincinnati -7
