The last time these two teams met was in 1952 in the Refrigerator Bowl. The Hilltoppers won that game 34-19. The series history is Arkansas State 1-Western Kentucky 1, and one tie.

Arkansas State is coming off a 30-26 victory over North Texas in Week 13. Quarterback Ryan Aplin threw for 240 yards and ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns, but also had three interceptions in the win. Running back Don Jones and tailback Reggie Arnold added scoring runs for ASU. Arnold went over the 100-yard mark against North Texas. He had 111 yards — only the third time this season he has been in triple digits.

He needs 62 yards to become the school’s all-time leading rusher. ASU’s defense has been solid and is anchored by linebacker Demario Davis, who leads the team in tackles with 66, including three sacks, and seven stops for losses. He has one of ASU’s seven interceptions, which he returned 75 yards for a touchdown.

Western Kentucky has yet to post a victory this season. They are fresh off a 29-23 loss to Sun Belt rival Florida Atlantic in Week 13. The loss extended Western Kentucky’s losing streak to an NCAA-high 19 games. Quarterback Kawaun Jakes was 19-of-28 for 146 yards, and threw a single touchdown pass in the loss. Wide receiver Derrius Brooks also threw a touchdown pass to wide out Seth Tamme from 21 yards out. Casey Tinius kicked three field goals for Western Kentucky, including a 47-yarder late in the game.
