Akron surrendered a 17-7 lead against Temple, allowing the Owls to score 49 unanswered points on their way to a 56-17 win in their last appearance. The Zips have several key players sidelined with injuries and numerous players are being asked to step up to fill those vacancies. But the inexperience is showing. The Zips ranks 118th in the FBS in rushing, averaging just 68.7 yards per game, while the defense is allowing 28.8 points and 361.8 yards per game.
Bowling Green has won two straight and four of their last five. The Falcons’ defense shut down Miami (Ohio) in a 35-14 victory in Week 11. The Falcons’ can score a ton of points on the strength of a strong passing game alone. Quarterback Tyler Sheehan will be making his 36th straight start for the Falcons. Sheehan is 298-of-465 passing for 3,189 yards and 19 touchdowns with only six interceptions. His favorite target is converted wide receiver Freddie Barnes. Barnes is the leading receiver in the nation with 117 receptions for 1,285 yards and 12 TDs. Barnes has also rushed for two scores and also has seven games with 100-plus yards receiving.

Bowling Green can pile up points quickly. The Zips have shown the ability to stop teams in the passing game and must figure out a way to contain BGSU star Freddie Barnes. The Zips have just seven sacks this season and must not allow Falcons’ quarterback Tyler Sheehan time to establish any passing attack. If Zips freshman quarterback Patrick Nicely has a strong performance, it could make it bit more interesting.
