The college football season is getting closer and closer and it really seems that the national championship is wide open this year. We’ve covered each major conference and picked a winner; now it’s time to get more specific and break down exactly how each conference will play out.

Here is the the Atlantic Coast Conference.

ACC ATLANTIC DIVISION

1. Florida State
2. Boston College
3. Clemson
4. North Carolina State
5. Wake Forest
6. Maryland

The ACC Atlantic looks like a three-horse race and could very well wind up a two-horse race depending on Clemson’s situation. Quarterback Kyle Parker was an elite freshman last season but was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the MLB draft this past spring.

If he leaves college, we’ll see a huge gap between the top two teams in the Atlantic and the rest of the field.

If Parker stays, we can’t count Clemson out. Florida State looks like it will have a solid year as it returns 15 starters and has a solid senior at quarterback in Christian Ponder.

Boston College could push the Seminoles, as it has a pretty easy schedule and had a top-20 scoring defense a year ago.

ACC COASTAL DIVISION

1. Miami (FL)
2. North Carolina
3. Virginia Tech
4. Georgia Tech
5. Duke
6. Virginia

The Coastal division should be much more competitive, with arguably four teams that have a viable shot to win. I like Miami the best.

The Hurricanes should get a special season out of pivot Jacory Harris and their defense may be the conference’s best.

Believe it or not, North Carolina could be right behind challenging Miami all season. The Tar Heels return a whopping 18 starters this year.

The offensive line is their biggest strength, though it remains to be seen if T.J. Yates can retain the starting quarterback job.

We absolutely can’t count out Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech either. Virginia Tech’s offense should be strong this season, as Tyrod Taylor is much more experienced and Ryan Williams was a beast last year, running for 1,500-plus yards.

The Hokies’ D returns just three starters, however. Georgia Tech said goodbye to some big names – Jonathan Dwyer and Derrick Morgan – but still has lots of talent.

Josh Nesbitt returns to helm the potent, tricky option offense. But the Yellow Jackets still allow too many points.

ACC Atlantic champion: Florida State. The Seminoles just seem like the safest pick with all the starters returning and nothing cloudy about their quarterback situation.
ACC Coast champion: Miami. Some bettors may disagree, but I think it’s the Hurricanes’ time to take a big step forward. Love that defense.
ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Miami 30, Florida State 24

Very well presented, organized, and full of useful content. It appears that the author is getting into the “essence” of his subject.
