ACC Conference: 2014 NCAA Football Gambling Predictions | Futures

2014 ACC Preview: Betting Futures

For the first time in a long time the defending champ is not residing in the SEC.  Louisville joins the ACC this season and this strengthens the league, but it does not look like defending conference and national champs, Florida State, is going to be opposed much this season.

Clemson is a shell of what it has been in the past and nobody from the Coastal is likely to be that daunting (though someone will get their shot).

The story in the conference is going to be FSU again. However, lets take a closer look and see if there is any other horse worth backing.

ACC Title Contenders

Florida State Seminoles  – 21/20 to win the ACC

The Seminoles are the defending champs and return more than half of their starters from a year ago. Chief among them is QB Jameis Winston, the reigning Heisman winner, who is protected by a very experienced offensive line.

The odds are that they might not dominate quite as much as they did a season ago but they are the team to beat for sure. They also have the kind of schedule to make another run at a national title.

Miami Hurricanes – 2/1 to win the ACC

It might be a surprise to see such low odds on the Canes here but they are the favourite to win the Coastal and once you get to a championship game scenario anything could happen, especially in a game between Miami and FSU.

There is no doubt coach Al Golden is getting this team headed in the right direction but there is still a long way to go.

The defense has to be better this season and they are putting an awful lot on new QB Jake Heaps. The first game of the season is at Louisville and it will tell us a lot…about both clubs.

North Carolina  Tar Heels – 5/1 to win the ACC

The Tar Heels seem to never be able to get over the hump. They have no trouble building up talent but then something seems to get in the way. This is a critical season for them as they have a really good chance to steal the division and get into the championship game.

They have an exciting quarterback in junior Marquise Williams, who proved last year that he is ready to lead the team forward. Their schedule is very manageable this year as they avoid FSU and are primed to take the division is Miami is not as good as expected.

Virginia Tech Hokies – 7/2 to win the ACC

FSU is such an overwhelming favourite to take the Atlantic division that I am going to take a look at another team from the Coastal because someone is going to be representing that division in the championship game.

VT has been mostly a disappointment the last few seasons as QB Logan Thomas never quite panned out. That meant that a brilliant defense was essentially wasted. This year the expectations are more managed and they have a chance to make a splash if they can win at Ohio State in week 2.

That game will be all on the defense but if they take it they have a chance at being special this season.

ACC Conference Winner – Florida State

Best Value  – North Carolina

There is no doubt that Florida State is the prohibitive favourite to win the ACC this season and perhaps win it all. You can’t really make a case for any other team in that division at all. If you are looking for value though, go with the Tar Heels.

They have experience at QB and could easily make the title game.  Could be worth a shot.
