2014 NCAA Football Betting Odds – Big 12 Season Preview

Free Picks! Big 12 Betting Futures

The Big 12 conference has a lot of momentum entering the 2014 college football season. It’s true that Texas is coming off of a Bowl loss to the Pac-12 Oregon Ducks, but the Oklahoma Sooners are riding high after their defeat of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Baylor Bears are looking like a true contender at this point in their post-Robert Griffin III rebuild.

The following is a look at which teams are the favorites to win the Big 12 entering the 2014 college football season. Plus we make some free picks.

Oklahoma 2/3 NCAA Football Betting Odds

Oklahoma is the team projected to win the Big 12, but there isn’t a lot of wiggle room for this squad with the Baylor Bears creeping directly behind them. Oklahoma was 11-2 last year, and the best part is that it returns 16 starters from that talented group.

Although parts of Oklahoma’s schedule will be difficult, it has the luxury of hosting Baylor on Nov. 8.

The only other AP Top 25 team on the schedule during the preseason is No. 20 Kansas State on Oct. 18. The mix of talent on the roster and friendly schedule is something that is rare going into the 2014 season, and it’s something that the Sooners will look to rally around as they seek out an appearance in the first annual College Football Playoffs.

Baylor NCAA Football Betting Odds 11/4

The truth is that there’s not a huge difference between Oklahoma’s odds and Baylor’s odds when it comes to an NCAA title, but Oklahoma has the edge in a couple of categories. For starters: Remember those 16 starters Oklahoma has returning?

Baylor has just four.

And remember that friendly schedule of the Sooners?

That changes for Baylor when you consider it has to play that same Oklahoma team on the road. What Baylor has going for it is the return of its quarterback Bryce Petty. Petty is coming off of a Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year campaign, and he’ll be the one leading the Bears to championship contention during 2014.

Texas NCAA Football Betting Odds 7/1

Texas is going to be improved this season, but the brutal truth for fans of burnt orange is that it won’t be at the same caliber of Baylor and Oklahoma. That said, Texas is a strong option for third place in the non-division separated conference.

At this point, still in the preseason, Texas is not in the first AP Top 25; however, it is in the Top 25 of the USA Today Coaches Poll. In the Coaches Poll, Texas is No. 24, giving it a slight edge when it comes to climbing the rankings in 2014.

Kansas State NCAA Football Betting Odds 10/1

The fourth place in the conference is going to be a fight between Kansas State and Oklahoma State. In fact, both teams will realistically seek third place in an ideal world, but Texas is the group with the edge at this juncture. All that said Kansas State has another slight edge over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

This Wildcats team won six of its last seven games in 2013, it played the top four teams in the conference closely last year and if the defense stays as elite as it was last season, it will be a challenger to all three squads ahead of it in the Big 12 in 2014.
