Iowa beat the likes of Iowa State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan, and Nebraska, but their 4 losses came at the hands of Northern Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. Iowa just hasn’t gotten over that hump yet and will look to get over that hump versus a good LSU team.

Iowa has a strong, physical team on the offensive and defensive end and offensively, I believe they can get some traction on LSU. The Tigers don’t have the most sturdy of defenses and they have given up their fair share of points this season.

Georgia, with a strong running game, put up 44 points on LSU, Ole Miss put up 24 points, even Mississippi State was able to put up 26 points earlier this season, and in their most recent game Arkansas put up 27 points led by a strong running game. So, you can punch LSU in the mouth and they can break a bit.

LSU will be without star quarterback Zach Mettenberger. That’s a huge blow. On the plus side, though, LSU has a very talented freshman quarterback in Anthony Jennings. Plus, Jennings will be coming into a pretty good situation. Jennings will have sophomore running back Jeremy Hill who ran for 1185 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns.

On the outside, Jennings will have junior wide receiver Jarvis Landry who is a very dynamic weapon. Statistically Landry caught 75 receptions, had 1172 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Odell Beckham caught 57 passes for 1117 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns.

Iowa statistically has a good defense, but in the Big Ten, there aren’t many dynamic, explosive offenses. The only real true, fast, explosive offense is Ohio State and the Buckeyes put up 34 points on Iowa. With as many weapons LSU has on offense I would expect them to put about the yards and right around that 34 Ohio State put up on Iowa.

Danny’s FREE College Football Pick:

So, as you might expect, for me, the best pick in this game, I believe, is the over. Looking at this game I’m very surprised that it’s so low at 49. This is a game that will take place in Tampa which should have nice, beautiful weather and the Outback Bowl is typically a high scoring game. In the last four games the total points scored have been 61, 63, 61, and 73.

Again, this is typically a high scoring game, LSU has a talented quarterback in Anthony Jennings and he’ll have a lot of weapons at his disposal.

He should be fine handing the ball off to Jeremy Hill and throwing it off to Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham.

Iowa has a decent enough offense themselves. They are very physical and plus LSU doesn’t have the greatest defense in the world.

They give up their fair share of points and so, overall, I like the over and it looks like the best pick.
