2012 ACC Conference: NCAA Football Gambling Predictions | Futures

NCAA Football Betting Futures – 2012 ACC Season Preview

The ACC has not sent a team to the national championship game since Miami made it all the way there in 2002 as still a member of the Big East, but there is at least one school that has a legitimate chance to go that far this season.

Last year, Clemson won the Atlantic Division and upended Coastal Division winner Virginia Tech in the conference title game, but went on to lose to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.

The following is a brief look at a couple of the top contenders to win the ACC this season along with their current odds as provided by Bovada.

Florida State 1/1

The Florida State Seminoles have been slowly building their way back into being one of the top teams in college football and this is the season where all that hard work could finally payoff. Head coach Jimbo Fisher returns 19 starters from last season’s 9-4 team including quarterback EJ Manual and defensive end Brandon Jenkins. Bovada has opened the Seminoles as fifth-favorites at 12/1 to win a national title and they are prohibitive ½ favorites to win the ACC’s Atlantic Division.

Virginia Tech 3/1

The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off disappointing back-to-back losses to Clemson in the ACC Championship and Michigan in the Sugar Bowl but still very optimistic they can finally breakthrough with a couple of victories in the postseason this year. Frank Beamer’s squad returns the bulk of his defense with nine starters back from last season, but it will be a whole new look on offense with just three starters back on that side of the ball. Bovada is not bullish on Virginia Tech as a national title contender at 30/1, but it remains the favorite at 10/11 to once again win the Coastal Division.

Clemson 5/1

The Clemson Tigers started last season like a house on fire rising all the way up into the top 10 of the BCS rankings but ended the year with four losses in their last six games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They return a wealth of talent and experience from that squad and are in excellent position to play spoiler in the Atlantic Division at 11/4 odds. The Tigers are 33/1 longshots to win a national title, but could be an early thorn in Florida State’s chances when the two clash on Sept. 22 in Tallahassee.

Miami 9/1

The Miami Hurricanes are coming off an extremely disappointing 2011 campaign in which they struggled to a 6-6 record overall and a 3-5 record in conference play. With just 11 starters back from last season, it will be a golden opportunity for a number of new faces to step up and make an impact starting with junior quarterback Stephen Morris. The Hurricanes are second-favorites to win the Coastal Division at 9/2 and would love nothing better than getting a shot at their rivals, Florida State in the ACC title game.

The odds to win the ACC for a few of the other contenders include Georgia Tech and North Carolina at 15/1, Virginia at 18/1 and North Carolina State at 20/1.
