Ooh. That’s a pretty big spread, isn’t it? Duke is undefeated at home but the Yellow Jackets are still a top-25 team. What gives?
Well, let’s delve deeper. Georgia Tech is just 5-29 all-time at Cameron Indoor Stadium, home of the storied Blue Devils. Since 1996-97, the Yellow Jackets 3-24 versus Duke. However, they did beat the Blue Devils at home last month, outrebounding them 38-32 and holding them to six-of-28 shooting from three-point range.
Given Duke’s unbelievable home dominance, however, it’s almost worth throwing that road loss out the window. At home, Duke shoots 50.3 percent and averages 89.9 points. In their last three trips to Duke, the Yellow Jackets average 61.7 points on 41.6 per cent shooting. GT also doesn’t have an answer for Duke senior Jon Scheyer; he averages 18.7 points on the year and 19.0 over his last three matchups against Georgia Tech. Even in the loss last month, he dropped 25 on the Yellow Jackets.
Upon closer inspection, a 12.5-point spread for Duke at home isn’t big at all given the unbelievable dominance over Georgia Tech historically. Duke is also 8-3 against the spread at home this season.
