WSU Cougars vs. UW Huskies Gambling & NCAA Handicapping Prediction

Washington State vs. Washington CBB Picks

The Washington Huskies have been far from elite this season, but compared to the Washington State Cougars, they look like the best team in the country. On the year, the Cougars are 9-18, and in their last 17 outings have only come away with three wins. [ad-4468020]

The team has also lost its last six straight, giving the Huskies the clearly edge even before their home-court advantage.

Washington State

The Cougs may be in a state of despair, but they can find solace in the fact that their most recent win—their only win in the last 11 outings—was against their in-state rivals. In that game, WSU walked away victorious 76-67, proving that even bad teams can get up for the moment when a heated rivalry is on the line.

Nicely put, Washington State has been atrocious offensively on the season. Up to this point, the team is 339th in points per game, tallying just 62.3 points per night, and it is 329th in field-goal percentage, shooting just 40.6 percent from the floor. To top it all off, the team is 323rd in assists, 216th in three-point percentage and 325th in free-throw percentage.

Conversely, the Cougars have been respectable on defense. It’s true that they’re giving up 37.6 from deep range and allowing their opponents to shoot 44.7 percent from the field, but they’re holding opposing teams to just 66.7 points per game, which is 88th in the country.

Washington

The Huskies are a much better offensive team than Washington State, which will help them negate the defense the Cougs will try to enforce.

When it comes down to it, don’t overthink this one too much. Washington, while not being an NCAA title contender by any means, has been much better than WSU this season. The last time the two teams faced off, it was Davonte Lacy’s first game back for WSU, meaning the scouting report went out the window at tip off. This time, UW knows what it’s getting itself into, and it will be prepared withhome-court advantage on its side.

Expect the Cougars to have a lot of energy in this one, but don’t be shocked when that energy runs out. The Huskies’ defense will allow Washington State to gain confidence early, but UW’s offense will be the difference maker when it’s all said and done.

Prediction: Washington 77 – Washington State 69
