ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Wildcats (17-2) followed up their first Big East loss last week against Creighton with a 94-85 win against Marquette on Saturday. Nova nearly lost the contest after blowing a nine-point lead late in regulation, but bounced back to win it in extra time.

James Bell led Villanova with a career-high 30 points, including six in overtime, making 9-of-18 shots from the field while draining four 3-pointers.

Teammates Darrun Hilliard and Ryan Arcidiacono both added 20 points while JayVaughn Pinkston added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cats’ who rank 23rd in the nation in scoring (81.3 points per game), good enough for second in the Big East behind Creighton.

The Wildcats are just 2-8 in their last 10 games against Georgetown, and poor defensive efforts as of late, leave head coach Jay Wright wondering if his team can outgun the Hoyas on their home court.

Georgetown (11-8) started the season 11-4, but have are struggling recently, losing four straight, including a 76-63 blowout to Big East-leading Creighton their last time out.
[ad-6571516]
The Blue Jays hammered the Hoyas, despite Markel Starks leading all scorers with 21 points for Georgetown.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera also contributed 18 points and Mikael Hopkins tallied 14, but it wasn’t enough.

And thing won’t get any easier for the Hoyas, who have lost by 10 or more in three of the four losses in the losing streak.

The Hoyas average 71.8 points, ahead of only Marquette (71.6) in the Big East, but have to get back to playing their own game rather than trying to run with their opponents.

Matt’s Free CBB Pick:

Villanova- The Hoyas will be without center Joshua Smith, who was ruled academically ineligible Friday and will miss the rest of the season.

That’s a huge blow as Smith puts up 11.5 points per game to rank third on the team, while being a big presence inside for Georgetown.

That loss along with the Hoyas horrible defense will surely allow Villanova to get the win in the one.
