NCAA Basketball Weekend Trends & Betting Picks

Michigan State’s game has to involve dominating things on the boards, in order to trigger the fast break. But that’s going to be quite a chore against this Texas team which crashes the glass as well as anyone with Damion James…

BetUS NCAA Basketball Betting Matchup:

Michigan State Spartans (7-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) vs. Texas Longhorns (9-1 SU, 4-3 ATS)
Toyota Center, Houston — 2 PM ET

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* MSU has won five of its last six games SU
* MSU has covered two of its last six games    * MSU has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
* TEX has won its last six games SU
* TEX has played five of its last seven games UNDER the total

Michigan State’s game has to involve dominating things on the boards, in order to trigger the fast break. But that’s going to be quite a chore against this Texas team which crashes the glass as well as anyone with Damion James, Connor Atchley and Gary Johnson, and is getting some great marksmanship from A.J, Abrams (47% from three, 20.9 ppg). Justin mason has more than exceeded expectations as the distributor (though he can’t shoot). Texas is battle-hardened already, with wins over UCLA and Villanova, but we haven’t been too impressed with the Spartans (18-point loss to Maryland, 35-point defeat to North Carolina).

Our PREDICTION: TEXAS BY 15

BetUS NCAA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

Purdue Boilermakers (8-2 SU, 4-4 ATS) vs. Davidson Wildcats (8-1 SU, 4-3 ATS)
Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis — 4 PM ET

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* PUR has covered one of its last five games
* PUR has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
* DAV has won its last six games SU
* DAV has played three of its last four games UNDER the total
* DAV has covered 11 of its last 15 games

Stephen Curry leads the nation with 31.9 points per game, and his Wildcats scored a big win against West Virginia at Madison Square Garden. But Purdue has a shadow for him, and his name is Chris Kramer. Last year’s Big Ten defensive player of the year, the 6’3″ Kramer won’t necessarily shut Curry down, but he will alter his game a bit, and because the Wildcats are so dependent on Curry for offense (he’s also the team’s point guard), that will change things too much for them. Meanwhile, Purdue will fill it up from the perimeter, both inside and outside the three-point line.

Our PREDICTION: PURDUE BY 7

BetUS NCAA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

Connecticut Huskies (9-0 SU, 3-2 ATS) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-1 SU, 5-2 ATS)
Key Arena, Seattle — 4 PM ET

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* GONZ has won 16 of its last 19 games SU
* GONZ has covered five of its last seven games
* GONZ has five of its last seven games UNDER the total
* CONN has won its last nine games SU
* CONN has played eight of its last 11 games OVER the total

Connecticut is second in the coaches’ poll, while Gonzaga is seventh. This “Battle in Seattle” was spoiled somewhat when Gonzaga lost last week against Arizona. Jeremy Pargo scored 23 points against U-Conn last year in a Gonzaga loss; this year he’s trying to concentrate more on dishing, but seven TO’s in the Arizona game are a concern. U-Conn probably has a depth advantage, and with Hasheem Thabeet in the middle, they are going to force Gonzaga to hit outside shots early and often. But with center Josh Heytvelt, they can extend the Huskies defense out toward the circle. Thabeet has become much more of an offensive force, and junior forward Stanley Robinson is back to bolster the bench. And there’s quickness in the backcourt. But that’s a lot of traveling U-Conn’s had to do, and Gonzaga will be sky-high for this one in the Key Arena

Our PREDICTION: GONZAGA BY 6

BetUS NCAA Basketball Sports Betting Matchup:

Syracuse Orange (10-1 SU, 3-5 ATS) at Memphis Tigers (6-2 SU, 4-4 ATS)
FedEx Forum, Memphis — 6 PM ET

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* SYR has won 14 of its last 17 games SU
* SYR has covered six of its last 17 games
* SYR has played seven of its last 11 games OVER the total
* SYR has lost six of its last nine road games SU
* SYR has played seven of its last ten road games UNDER the total
* MEM has won 69 of its last 74 games SU
* MEM has covered two of its last six games
* MEM has won its last six home games SU
* MEM has covered four of its last 12 home games

Wesley Witherspoon is not an ideal point guard for the Memphis team and there is not a lot of proficiency from three-point range, but we anticipate that Shawn Taggart and Robert Dozier (16.3 rpg and four blocks per game between them) will be able to compete inside. Memphis, which has had quite a transition after losing Joey Dorsey, Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts, has had two tests (vs. Xavier and Georgetown) and came up short in both. Syracuse hasn’t really been a visitor yet, but we doubt they’ll be fazed. They’ve got experience, a strong three-guard rotation, the edge at the point with Jonny Flynn, and enough “bigs” to slug in the paint.

Our PREDICTION: SYRACUSE BY 4
