This Sweet Sixteen matchup will take place at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY at 7:27 on Thursday.

There is no recent matchup history between these two teams.

The Mountaineers were solid but unspectacular in eliminating Missouri in round 2. Missouri’s pressure bothered them some but the Tigers shot very poorly against the rugged West Viriginia defense negating any real advantage.

Everyone knows that the weak part of the Mountaineers is the backcourt but their forwards are good enough that they might be able to ride them for another round or two.

Leader of that group is senior Da’Sean Butler who led the way against Mizzou with 28 points. He got help from Devin Ebanks and Kevin Jones and that is the key. Butler is a very good player but he can’t do it by himself.

When Ebanks and Jones chip in this team is very tough to handle. It will be interesting to see if they can all play effectively against a Washington team that will push the pace on offense and is better offensively than the Tigers.

By seeding it was an upset but the oddsmakers installed Washington as a favourite against New Mexico…and they thumped the Lobos.

Led by the sensational Quincy Pondexter, the Huskies had a very efficient game with the exception of bricking some free throws, but since they shoot 72% as a team on the season I am going to overlook it.

In each round Pondexter is proving to be the difference maker and in this one he will face his stiffest rival in Butler. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

They are both smooth wing players who rebound and score inside and out.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record who ever wins this matchup will likely lead his team to victory.

The Huskies have been looking as good as anybody over the last month.

This is one of the better games this week.

Every time I see WVU I am not impressed where as Washington keeps impressing me more and more. They are going to need another strong game from Matthew Bryan-Amaning but I think Quincy has it in him to grab another victory taking Washington to the Elite Eight. Take the points in this one.

Score prediction: Washington 74 – West Virginia 70

West Virginia starting point guard Darryl Bryant will miss the rest of the NCAA tournament after breaking his right foot, school officials confirmed Tuesday night.

The loss is a blow to the second-seeded Mountaineers, who face No. 11 Washington in Thursday’s East Regional semifinals at the Carrier Dome.
