Tennessee is coming off one of its better wins of the season, in which it got 20 points from Scotty Hopson and rolled to a 16-point victory. Florida, usually a sure-handed team, committed 17 turnovers in the contest, and Tennessee, which is generally not all that efficient from beyond the three-point arc, hit 12 from downtown. Getting Nick Calathes in early foul trouble was a key factor in the game as well. That was certainly a win the Vols needed, as they had dropped consecutive home decisions to Memphis and LSU.

Arkansas is a team that started strong, got itself into the national rankings, and has done very little since the Razorbacks beat both Oklahoma and Texas, but once they got to the SEC schedule, things started to go wrong. Noe they have a 1-5 record in the conference, and although those wins over the Sooners and Longhorns are bound to count for something when the time comes to pick at-large teams for the NCAA’s, the committee isn’t going to look kindly upon teams that have such an awful record in league play.

The 20 points was Hopson’s season high, the effort from beyond the arc likely was an anomaly. Tennessee gives up 78 points per game on the road. Courtney Fortson was been making things happen lately; the cat-quick freshman point guard has 18 assists over his last two contests. Michael Washington, the guy the Hogs are going to look to underneath, has shot 58% over the last two games, and had 24 against LSU even in defeat on Saturday.

The point is that there are some signs that Arkansas could be turning the corner, or turning back to where they were before. Hopefully there is some desperation in this Arkansas team, which has won 18 of its last 20 at home. We’re taking the points with the Hogs, the four-point underdog in the BetUS NCAA college basketball sports betting odds.
