The NCAA Tournament is about to begin and now is the time to make your futures bet. Ohio State has the best odds, but they are playing in a killer region. Duke and Kansas have good odds as the top seeds in their region and while Pitt is playing in the weakest region the top seed is not playing well losing 3 of their last 6 games.

Here are the teams with the best odds to win the Big Dance as well as a couple of sleeper picks.

Ohio St  +350

Ohio State is the top-ranked team in the nation, are solid on both offense and defense, and they come into the Big Dance hot winning their last 7 games including the Big 12 conference tournament. However, the Buckeyes are in the tough East Region along with North Carolina, Syracuse, Kentucky, and dark horse Washington. One big issue for Ohio State is that they only rank 195th in the nation in rebounds per game.

Kansas +450

Tell you the truth I like Kansas this season, as last season they were the big favorites to win and they had a lot of pressure on them, which they do not have this season. The Jayhawks feature, perhaps, the best F tandem in the nation in the Morris Twins and their guards are solid at shooting the rock. Their region of the Southwest is not the toughest one, but Louisville and Notre Dame may give them problems.

Duke +450

Duke won the title last year, but can they repeat? They have a great inside/outside game and they come in the Big Dance with confidence after beating rival North Carolina to capture the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils may be THE team to beat if stud freshman Kyrie Irving (17.4 ppg) plays like he did before being sidelined by an injury since the beginning of December. Duke is in the West region and San Diego State, a red-hot UCONN team, and Texas are possible hurdles.

Pittsburgh +800

Pitt did not end the season well, but they won the killer Big East, have great guard play, and rank 8th in the nation in rebounding. Maybe the best thing the Panthers have going for them is that they are playing in the Southeast Region, which is the weakest region by far.

San Diego St +1000

Is SDSU this season’s Butler? The Aztecs won the Mountain West Conference tournament and their defense ranks 7th in the nation in opponents’ points per game. However, they were only 2-2 against ranked teams this season and they are in a tough region along with Duke, UCONN, and Texas.

North Carolina +1500

UNC won the ACC this season beating Duke to do it, but lost to Duke in the ACC tile game, which cost them a #1 seed. The Tar Heels are the best rebounding team in the nation and they rank 24th in the nation in scoring. They are in the same region as Ohio State and Syracuse and they may play a possible bracket buster in Washington in the 2nd round.

Florida +1800

Florida has the luxury of playing in the weakest region in the Southwest and they won their last 4 games, 2 against ranked teams, until they lost to Kentucky in the SEC tournament final. The Gators have a good all-around game and their defense is solid ranking 45th in the nation in opponents’ points per game. However in their only game against a team ranked in the top 10 they got killed losing by 18 points to Ohio State.

Louisville, Purdue, and Texas +2000

Louisville has one of the best backcourts in the nation and they played in the killer Big East this season. Still, they are in the same region as Kansas and they may play Villanova in the 2nd round, who they already lost to this season.

Purdue lost their last 2 games of the season and for them to win they will need a great tournament from the duo of F/C JaJuan Johnson (20.5 ppg 8.2 rpg) and G E’Twaun Moore 18.2 ppg), as the Boilermakers are not a deep team.

Texas is in the same region as Duke and a hot UCONN team, but they have a couple of studs in G/F Jordan Hamilton (18.6 ppg 7.6 rpg) and F Tristan Thompson (13.3 ppg 7.8 rpg). The Longhorns did beat Kansas on their floor this season and were 7-3 against ranked teams.

Sleepers

Connecticut +3500

UCONN is red hot, as they won the tough Big East conference tournament beating 4 ranked teams in the process. They have one of the best guards in the nation in Kemba Walker, who was on fire in the Big East tourney, and they rank 11th in the nation in rebounds per game. The Huskies are a team that nobody wants to play and the one thing they have going against them is that they are in the same conference as Duke, San Diego State, and Texas.

Washington +4000

Washington is the 7th seed in the tough East Region and they have a possible 2nd round game against North Carolina. Still, the Huskies are a dangerous team that ranks 3rd in the nation in scoring, 12th in the nation in rebounding, and has one of the best PG’s in the nation in Isaiah Thomas. On top of that they come into the Big Dance with confidence since they won the Pac 10 conference tournament.
