College Hoops Preview: Longhorns vs. Sooners (Jan. 12)

One of the best rivalries in all of college basketball resumes on Monday night when the Texas Longhorns battle the Oklahoma Sooners and Blake Griffin….

College Hoops Betting Preview – Texas vs Oklahoma

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners resume their rivalry on Monday night with both teams ranked in the top ten. Texas is ranked seventh and Oklahoma is ranked sixth. Sports betting fans have to love how Oklahoma’s basketball team has caught up to their football team. The Sooners have provided online basketball betting fans some opportunity for profit by going 6 and 5 against the spread. Straight-up this team is very good going 15 and 1 straight-up including a smashing victory against the Utah Utes. Oklahoma has one of the most feared front lines in all of college basketball and because of that they are always a threat to cover or beat the BetUS online betting spread.

Texas has become one of the best programs in college basketball. A lot of that has to do with Coach Rick Barnes who just knows how to get his team to stay close in games. The Longhorns are 12 and 3 straight-up but only 6 and 6 against the BetUS online wagering spread. The Longhorns are a contrast to the Sooners in the sense that they rely heavily on the play of their guards while the Sooners are all about their big men.

Here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds for this game.

Texas Longhorns + 4 – 110 + 155
Oklahoma Sooners -4 – 110 – 175

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Texas Longhorns are 2 and 5 against the spread in their last 7 games after a straight-up win.
The Texas Longhorns are 5 and 0 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Oklahoma Sooners are 1 and 5 against the spread in their last 6 games after an against the spread victory.
The Favorite is 4 and 1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

This game comes down to which style will prevail and home court advantage. The Oklahoma Sooners have lost only once this season, to the Arkansas Razorbacks, a team that also beat the Texas Longhorns. The reason they’ve been so good straight-up is because of Blake Griffin who leads the Sooners in points, field goal percentage, rebounds, steals and blocks.

The 6’ 10” forward is already an All-American in my eyes and he should only get better as the season progresses. Does Texas have anybody who can stick with Griffin?

Not really. Point-guard A.J. Abrams is very good, but forward Damion Jones is going to find it difficult to counter anything that Griffin does in this game.

Griffin should dominate the paint which means that the Sooners will be in a good position to win in the last ten minutes of this contest. I see the Sooners doing that and I see them doing it by more than the 4 point online wagering spread.

Texas vs. OU Prediction:

I’ll be making an online bet on the Oklahoma Sooners to cover the 4 point BetUS online betting spread because Blake Griffin will dominate and the Texas Longhorns won’t have an answer.
