Marcus Paige who notched his sixth straight double-digit point game, put up 13 points and five assists for the Tar Heels, who in their latest bout with UAB, still lost at home, 63-59.

North Carolina (4-2) has outshot its opponents in field goal percentage for the past six games, but it wasn’t enough against the Blazers as the Tar Heels were dominated on the backboards.

It was also the sixth game in a row that UNC has recorded fewer three-pointers than their opponents.

They will need to play better against a No. 1 ranked Michigan State unit that despite being without Gary Harris, who rested an ankle injury, still shot 63.1 percent from the field in a 98-65 rout over Mount St. Mary’s on Friday.

Michigan State (7-0) is off its best start since 2000.

The Spartans got the win with a season-high 15 points from Travis Trice on 75 percent shooting in 21 minutes, while Denzel Valentine pitched in with a career-high 15 points and seven assists, and Branden Dawson grabbed a game-high 10 boards as the Spartans outrebounded Mount. St. Mary’s 40-31.

Now the Spartans will face their biggest test of the season against the Tar Heels, who they are 0-2 against over the past four years. MSU lost 67-55, the last time they played UNC on Nov. 11, 2011.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are good from the outside, a place where the MSU allowed Mount St. Mary’s Will Miller to record a team season high in three-pointers with five and three pointers attempted with 12.

But in turn the Spartans set season highs for field goal percentage (63.1), three-point percentage (50.0), and total points (98).

Michigan State are much better inside and are doing a much better job on the boards than UNC, and when looking at how many times per game the two teams turn over the ball, it’s a wash.

So, after digging into all the season numbers, Michigan State has the advantage in one key category, scoring, where the Spartans have an edge over the Tar Heels, 85.9 points per game to 76.7 points per game.

Free Pick: Michigan State This team is undefeated for a reason, and it will show with a pivotal win over North Carolina here.
