SJSU vs SDSU CBB Hoops Handicapping

San Jose State hadn’t won a game since 2013, but snapped a 13-game losing skid with a win at Nevada on Tuesday. [ad-4468020]

Now they will look to derail the Aztecs, who despite being on an unbeaten streak since November 14, have lost two of their last four, including a 58-44 setback at New Mexico on Saturday.

ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Despite shooting 43.8 and holding the advantage on the boards, the Spartans (7-19) lost to the Wolf Pack 66-64 last time out.

Guard Isaac Thorton led the offensive charge with 15 points, but as many (15) turnovers contributed to the Spartans’ demise. They also gave Nevada a chance to stay in it, sending them to line to score 19-of-27 from the charity stripe.

Meanwhile, San Diego dropped to 23-3 after a loss at New Mexico over the weekend.

The loss moved the Aztec into a tie for first in the Mountain West with the Lobos, with both teams having four games remaining, including a rematch March 8, in the regular-season finale at San Diego State.

That’s good news for the Aztecs who are a near-perfect 13-1 at home.

Nevertheless, San Diego will need to turn things around against the Spartans, and it all starts with shooting.

The Aztecs shot a miserable 32.3 percent from the field versus the Lobos, producing just a single player in double figures,

Winston Shepard scored 10 points for the Aztecs, while JJ O’Brien added eight points and Xavier Thames seven for San Diego State, which gave up the lead for good just 4½ minutes into the game.

From there New Mexico piled it on moving ahead by double-digits before taking a 29-22 advantage into the half.

The Lobos came out in the second scoring the first four points to start a 9-0 run, eventually stretching their lead to 38-24. The Aztecs cut the deficit to 12 on the next possession but were unable to get any closer.

Free Pick: San Diego State- While the Aztecs looked vulnerable for just the third time this season against a very good New Mexico team, the Spartans have been just awful.

Unless the spread at game time changes to more than 25 points, my money is on San Diego in this one.
