No. 11 seed Virginia Commonwealth have surprised even the most experienced bracketologists, and have earned a bout with the top seeded Kansas Jayhawks in the Elite 8 round of this year’s NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon in San Antonio.

The Rams did it by knocking of USC in an at-large bid play-in game, followed it up by taking down No. 6 Georgetown, destroying Purdue by 18 points and then outlasting a bigger, more potent No. 10 Florida State team in overtime in the Southwest Regional Semifinals on Friday. Bradford Burgess made the winning layup with six seconds left as VCU advanced to its first Elite Eight.

The Rams shot their way through the first four rounds of the tournament, knocking down nearly 43 percent from long range as a team. They kept their foot to the floor against the Seminoles, draining 45 percent of their shots. They were 12-of-26 from behind the arc.

Meanwhile, Kansas advanced to its fourth Elite 8 in eight seasons under Bill Self.

The Top-seeded Jayhawks went on 27-4 run early in the first half to take a 35-11 lead, in the semi-final game of the Southwest Region and never looked back.

The Jayhawks smothered the Spiders defensively, holding them to just 22-65 (.338) from the field and 4-26 (.154) from behind the three-point line.

Brady Morningstar had a team-high 18 points, on 7-11 (.636) shooting, while chipping in four assists and sophomore forward Thomas Robinson had 12 points and 14 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action to help propel Kansas to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2008, when the Jayhawks won the national title.

VCU will have to limit Kansas’ offensive possessions and continue to knock down looks from beyond the arc to have a chance at up ending the Kansas Jayhawks.

Recent CBB Betting Trends:
Over is 7-3 in VCU last 10 neutral site games.
Under is 13-3 in KAN last 16 NCAA Tournament games.
Under is 6-2 in KAN last 8 overall.

Matt’s Free Prediction: It’s been a valiant run for the Rams, but the, size, length and balanced attack of the Jayhawks will simply be too much for the VCU to overcome.
