Michigan Wolverines vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview

Kansas beat a solid North Carolina team in their last game while this one will be the first for Michigan facing a team from a major conference. NCAAB lines have Kansas as 2-point favorites with a total of 136.5.

In their last games Kansas beat North Carolina 70-58 and Michigan beat Virginia Commonwealth 78-53.

On the season Michigan is 16-16-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 19-14 and Kansas is 20-15 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 14-17-1.

Kansas is a very deep team and they showed this in the UNC game where leading scorer Ben McLemore was 0/9 from the field for only 2 points and the Jayhawks still won by 12 points.

Michigan has to play good all around D in this game and in the UNC game FW Kevin Young, C Jeff Withey, and G Travis Releford combined for 48 points. While the Jayhawks have a deep team and a solid offense their defense was stellar in the UNC game holding the Tar Heels to 30.1% shooting from the floor. [ad-6571516]

Michigan has one of the best backcourts in the nation with Player of the Year candidate Trey Burke (19.2 ppg) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (14.8 ppg). This duo combined for 32 points in the VCU game, but while the frontcourt does not get as much press the forwards of Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary, who combined for 35 points in the VCU game.

The Wolverines attack the rim and when they get there they will be dealing with the 7′ Withey, who leads the NCAA Tournament in blocks and was one of the nation’s leaders in blocks this season.

Michigan dominated VCU on the boards, but they only rank 156th in the nation in rebounds and that is a concern facing Withey and a Kansas team that is solid on the glass.

In some betting trends for this South Region match up Michigan is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, and they have an Over record of 10-4-1 in their last 15 neutral site games.

Kansas is 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games overall, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 5-2 in their last 7 games.

Jason’s Pick: Michigan is solid, but I think Kansas is the better and more balanced team and the Jayhawks will win and cover.
