While Seton Hall has alternated wins and losses in their last six games, they had two losses prior to those six games for a 3-5 run in their last eight. One of those losses came to these same Villanova Wildcats in Newark. Villanova won the game 83-67 behind a 52.0 percent shooting effort. The Wildcats also hit on 52.2 percent of their three-point attempts, and 86.4 percent of their free throw attempts in the game. Guard Darrun Hilliard II led the Wildcats with 19 points, while forward JayVaughn Pinkston added 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Pinkston has been overtaken by Villanova guard James Bell for the team lead in scoring after some sub-par outings in recent weeks. Over his last six games, Pinkston is averaging just 11.2 points per game.

Bell, a senior, boosted his team-leading scoring total with a 27-point effort in the team’s last game, an 81-58 win over Xavier. Bell hit on a career-high six three-pointers in the game, his seventh 20-point effort of the season. His season scoring average is now seven points better than it was a year ago. That win over Xavier helped Villanova to its ninth 20-win campaign in the last 10 seasons and one of the best starts in school history.

Seton Hall was paced by guard Brian Oliver in that first meeting with Villanova. Oliver poured in 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, hitting on 6 of 11 three-pointers.

Oliver has scored more than seven points just once in Seton Hall’s last five games. He’ll return to action in this one after missing the Pirates’ last game as he served a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules.

Starters Fuquan Edwin and Eugene Teague were both out for that game, but will suit up for the Pirates on Thursday.

Edwin in particular could cause some trouble for the Wildcats as he has surpassed 20 points in three of his last five games, and has nine steals in the last two game, while Teague is averaging 10.4 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds on the season.

Villanova was able to take care of business against Seton Hall in their last meeting, and with a raucous home crowd supporting them and Villanova in better form than that first meeting, another blowout can be expected.

The Wildcats have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between these teams.

The Wildcats are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 home games, and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.

The play: Villanova -12.5
