San Diego State Aztecs vs. New Mexico Lobos Preview

The Lobos are in the Big Dance, but even with 22 wins the Aztecs are on the bubble since they finished 4th in the MWC and if they lose this game they may be headed to the NIT and not the NCAA tournament. NCAAB lines have New Mexico as 1.5-point favorites with a total of 126.5.

In the first round of the MWC tournament New Mexico beat Wyoming 59-46 and SDSU beat Boise State 73-67.

On the season New Mexico is 17-12-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 10-15 and SDSU is 13-12-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 13-9-1.

This season these 2 teams split the 2 games they faced each other with each winning at home.

Last season in the MWC tournament New Mexico beat SDSU in the final.

The winner of this game will play UNLV or Colorado State on Saturday.

UNM leading scorer G Kendall Williams (13.7 ppg) struggled in the opening game in the MWC tournament and G Tony Snell (12.2 ppg), who has averaged 23 ppg in his last 3 games, give the Lobos a great backcourt and the Aztecs must play good perimeter D tonight. [ad-6571516]

For SDSU it is all about G Jamaal Franklin (17 ppg 9.4 rpg), who leads the Aztecs in both scoring and rebounding. He has been solid all season and he is the key guy that the Lobos have to worry about.

Chase Tapley (13.5 ppg) and Xavier Thames (9.6 ppg) have to help Franklin out in the scoring department and shoot the rock well for the Aztecs to win this game.

UNM 7′ C Alex Kirk (12 ppg 8.1 rpg) scored 25 points in the home win over SDSU and it is key that the Aztecs frontcourt players keep him from dominating in the paint.

In some betting trends for this MWC semifinal game New Mexico is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games, 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

SDSU 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win, and they have an Over record of 3-1-1 in their last 5 neutral site games.

Jason’s Pick: I think Kirk will have another big game facing the Aztecs and with their solid backcourt the Lobos will win and cover in this game.
