The Princeton Tigers tangle with the Kentucky Wildcats in Thursday afternoon’s second round of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Tournament. This East Region matchup is set to tip at 2:45 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

Princeton made it into this tournament by the slightest of margins, but you take an automatic bid and a 13th seed in the dance anyway you can. Douglas Davis nailed a last-second jumper to give the three-point underdog Tigers a 63-62 win over Harvard in a one-game playoff that was needed to decide this year’s Ivy League bid to the NCAA’s. The win raised their record to 25-6 straight-up and 15-12 against the spread.

Davis came up big in the game against the Crimson, but Kareem Maddox and Ian Hummer are each averaging 13.9 points a game and have combined to pull down close to 14 rebounds a game. Princeton is shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range while averaging 70 points and 35 rebounds a game.

Kentucky comes into this game on a tear after winning its last six games including a dominating 70-54 victory over Florida in the SEC Championship Game as a 1 ½-point underdog. The Wildcats earned a fourth seed for the NCAA’s with an overall record of 25-8 SU (13-14-1 ATS) and a 10-6 record in conference play.

The youthful Wildcats are led by a trio of freshman starters including Brandon Knight, who leads the team in scoring with 17.5 points a game and Terrence Jones, who is second in scoring with 16.5 points and has a team-high 8.9 rebounds a game. Kentucky is averaging 76 points and 38 rebounds a game. It is shooting 46 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from three-point range.

The tendency for a talented, but young team is to look past a game like this, which is exactly what a veteran team like Princeton is counting on. The Tigers will remain in this cat-fight until the end and while they will not come away with a win, they will easily cover the 13-point spread.

Trends:
Over is 9-3 in PRINC last 12 non-conference games.
Under is 7-3 in PRINC last 10 neutral site games.

The Pick: Princeton +13
